A method for braking a motor vehicle in critical driving situations in which the risk exists that the transverse forces acting on the vehicle will become so great in the continued progression of its movement that it rolls over laterally. In order to reduce the risk of a lateral rollover, the vehicle operation is monitored with regard to such critical driving situations and a parking brake is activated automatically if a critical driving situation is detected.

Method for braking a motor vehicle in critical driving situations

A method is described for stabilizing a vehicle during a braking maneuver, in which the vehicle is steered at the same time. In order to bring the vehicle back again into a controlled state as rapidly as possible, the driving state is monitored with respect to a driving situation in which the wheel slip of the front wheels is greater than a specified threshold value, and besides that, a steering requirement is present. If such a driving situation has been detected, the brake pressure is first reduced at a first front wheel and after that at a second front wheel on the other side of the vehicle, until the wheel start-up pressure is reached. Because of that, the first wheel starts up substantially faster than in response to a simultaneous pressure reduction.

A method for braking a vehicle in a driving situation, in which an automatic braking function is active. The hydraulic pump of the brake control system may be sized to be relatively small and cost-effective, if, in critical driving situations, an additional braking device is automatically switched on or its braking capacity is increased, in order to assist the service brake and further decelerate the vehicle.

Wheel performance is influenced within the scope of an operating dynamics system or an electrical brake control system. In this context, a traction control system is used. At least one quantity representing the ambient temperature or the intake air temperature of an internal combustion engine is recorded, and the traction control system is adjusted as a function of this temperature quantity to emphasize stability at low temperatures and to emphasize traction at higher temperatures. In another variant, a pre-charging pump is activated, and a return pump for pre-pressurizing the circuit is activated and/or valves for building up or reducing pressure are triggered via opening pulses. At least one quantity representing the coolant temperature, the ambient temperature, or the intake air temperature of an internal combustion engine is recorded, and as a function of this measured temperature quantity, the length of the opening pulses is changed, the pre-charging pump is activated, and/or the circuit is pre-pressurized by at least one pump.
