The invention relates to a system for monitoring a layer ( ), which is subjected to wear, of a composite structure ( ) and relates especially to a system for monitoring the cover layer ( ) of a conveyor belt ( ). The monitoring system includes a transmitter/receiver device ( ) which continuously generates an electromagnetic field. A ferromagnetic layer ( ) of high permeability is embedded in the cover layer ( ) and shields a transponder ( ), which is embedded in the conveyor belt ( ), from the electromagnetic field as long as it is not damaged by wear. The transmitter/receiver device ( ) recognizes the wear of the cover layer ( ) in that it receives data from the transponder ( ) because, in this case, the ferromagnetic layer ( ) is damaged over a large area. The invention also relates to a method for monitoring a composite structure ( ) having a layer ( ) subjected to wear. The invention relates especially to a method for monitoring the cover layer ( ) of a conveyor belt ( ).

System and method for monitoring a cover layer of a composite structure wherein the cover layer is subjected to wear

The invention relates to a method for monitoring a continuous revolving conveyor belt (4) having a connecting region (8). The connecting region (8) is monitored with the aid of two transponders (12) and (14). One of the transponders is arranged forward of the connecting region (8) and the other transponder is connected rearward of the connecting region (8). Both transponders (12) and (14) transmit respective signals to an external transmitter/receiver unit 16 wherein a conclusion is drawn as to the spacing of the two transponders (12) and (14) on the basis of the time-dependent spacing of the two signals. If the spacing s of the transponders (12) and (14) exceeds a pregiven amount, then a conclusion is drawn by the external transmitter/receiver unit (16) as to a critical change in length of the connecting region (8) and corresponding measures are initiated.

Method for monitoring a conveyor belt and system therefor

A linear drive system has a guide rail and a transport device that is moveable along the guide rail. At least one tubular, flexible hollow body is positioned along the extension of the guide rail. The hollow body consists essentially of an elastomeric material and has a first and a second end. The at least one hollow body is loadable with a pressure medium from the first or the second end. At least one squeezing roller is rotatably connected to the transport device for forcing sealingly the at least one hollow body against a counter element. The guide rail consists essentially of a flexible elastomer.

A connection for two end portions of a conveyor belt or a power transmission belt of elastomeric material having a load-carrying member that is made of metal or woven material and is embedded between cover layers is provided. The free ends of the load-carrying member are placed together in a connection location that is covered by a reinforcement layer, which is embedded in elastomeric material, whereby in zones of the free ends of the load-carrying member, the reinforcement layer is interrupted.
