The invention relates to a method and apparatus for detecting elution of a sample from a sample substrate to incubation buffer contained in a sample well while the sample substrate is still within the well. The method comprises measuring light absorption of the contents of the sample well at a predefined wavelength or wavelength range, and determining, based on the absorption measurement, the degree of elution of the sample. According to the invention, a wavelength or wavelength range is used which is absorbed by at least one elutable component of the sample but transmitted by the sample substrate. The invention provides a reliable way of determining the degree of elution of blood samples in neonatal screening, for example.

Method and apparatus for detecting elution of samples

A method for cross-talk correction of intensities measured on mutually separate detection wavelength bands is presented. Each detection wavelength band relates to one of analyte-specific probe-populations contained by a sample to be analyzed. Each probe-population is capable of emitting a first signal component and a second signal component whose spectra have maxima at different wavelengths and at least the first signal component is dependent on presence of analyte detectable with that probe-population. Cross-talk corrected intensities are computed on the basis of a) the intensities measured on the detection wavelength bands, b) a value indicative of intensity occurring on an auxiliary wavelength band outside the detection wavelength bands and at least partially caused by the second signal components, and c) pre-determined cross-talk parameters. For example in con-junction with FRET-based assays, the dependency of a background signal on the percentage of hybridized probes can be taken into account in the cross-talk correction.

Method and a device for cross-talk correction of measured intensities

The present invention relates generally to the field of biochemical laboratory instrumentation for different applications of measuring properties of samples on e.g. microtitration plates and corresponding sample supports. The object of the invention is achieved by providing an optical measurement instrument for photoluminescence, chemiluminescence and/or AlphaScreen measurements wherein different optical modules are used for alternative measurements. The excitation pulses for the alternative measurements are guided via two different routes to optical modules, the routes reaching the module in different angles. This way it is possible to use alternative radiation sources without optical switches and without changing the optical system. The object of the invention is further achieved by providing an additional lens in the optical module when a thermo plate is used. This way it is possible to achieve a correct optical focus in different measurement modes not depending on the use of the thermo plate.

Versatile instrumentation for optical measurement of samples

The present invention relates generally to the field of biochemical laboratory. More particularly the invention relates to more reliable, intelligent instrumental features of equipment used as e.g. fluorometers, photometers and luminometers. The object of the invention is achieved by providing an optical measurement instrument where a selectable optical component is identified by the measurement instrument. The instrument therefore has means for identifying an optical component by e.g. reading a code from the component. The object is also achieved by a changeable/selectable optical component such as optical module or filter for a measurement instrument, the component comprising a readable identification means. The identification comprises information on the type/properties of the optical component so that the components suitability for a selected measurement can be verified.

Intelligent instrumentation with changeable optical components

The present invention relates generally to the field of biochemical laboratory. More particularly the invention relates to the improved and more accurate instrumental features of equipment used as e.g. fluorometers, photometers and luminometers. The object of the invention is achieved by providing an optical measurement instrument where there is an interface () for a changeable optical module (), and excitation and/or emission beam is guided through an aperture of the optical module. This allows performing various types of measurements by changing an optical module without a problem lenses becoming unclean due to manual handling of the optical modules. The invention also makes possible to achieve an accurate measurement location and area within a sample.

Optical instrument and process for measurement of samples

A method for checking the operation of a laboratory instrument used in biochemistry by means of an individual test plate () by comparing measured values of sample units () placed in the wells () of the frame plate () to previously known measured values verified by a reference device. The sample unit () placed in the frame plate () of the test plate () is a teflon plastic cup () provided with an aluminum cover (), the sample material () in powdery form being placed in said cup, or an optical filter (), which is locked in place by means of a locking spring ring ().

Method for checking the operation of an optical measuring device and checking device

The present invention relates generally to the field of biochemical laboratory. More particularly the invention relates to the improved and more efficient instrumental features of equipment used as e.g. fluorometers, photometers and luminometers. The object of the invention is achieved by providing an optical measurement instrument where there is an interface ( ) for a changeable optical module ( ), the interface being adapted for at least one excitation beam and at least two emission beams. This allows performing various types of measurements by changing an optical module. The change of module and related parameters can be performed automatically controlled by software. It is also possible to easily upgrade the instrument for new types of measurements by just providing the instrument with a new optical module and the related software.

An imaging device for biochemical or medical samples, the pulse mode light source of which incorporates flash lamps and a rotating mirror in an inclined position, the said mirror reflecting the light emitted by each flash lamp in turn along the same optical path to the sample. The flash lamps are switched on alternately in phases and synchronised with the rotating mirror and the emission light chopper, which comprises two rotating discs. The turning mirror directs the light at the sample from above and/or below, in which case a double-acting transparent scattering plate can be used.

Sample imaging device

A compact optical instrument for performing various laboratory measurements utilizing different technologies of spectroscopy, i.e., photoluminescence, absorption and chemical luminescence, from liquid and solid samples. The measuring head of the instrument includes a continuous wave lamp unit (cw-lamp unit), a photometric detector unit and an emission unit and further includes an optomechanical coupling unit having at least one movable or replaceable mirror for allowing the optical path of the measurement or optimizing the optical path of the measurement. A controller including electronics and computer interface are also provided.

Multilabel measurement instrument

A multi-purpose optical scanner that is provided for performing different type of high sensitivity imaging of planar biochemical samples. These types of samples include stimulable phosphor image plates, fluorescently labelled samples like electrophoretic gels, TLC-plates, blots etc. or multi-well support of samples and colored planar samples. According to an embodiment of the present invention the multi-purpose optical scanner comprises a measurement unit, a sample support and a scanning mechanics to provide relative movements between the sample on the sample support and the measurement unit. The measurement unit includes a fiber-coupled light source and a measuring head having a fixed light source, a detector, optics and a holder for interchangeable and application specifics filter cubes. The filter cubes include necessary filters and beamsplitters for different operating modes and applications. The orientation of the beamsplitter in the specific filter cube determines which light source will be in use.
