A communication network is established by a connection to a user terminal that is capable of roaming amongst a plurality of serving areas. The network includes a controller for each serving area capable of routing a connection to a location covered by that serving area. If a controller serving the user terminal is faulty, a home database, which stores a plurality of identities of other controllers, is able to route the connection to the user terminal by selecting one of the other controllers that is valid.

Communication network and method for improved resilience of a mobile-terminated connection

An access control system for a wireless telecommunications system comprising: a first base station serving a first site and operable as part of a first wireless telecommunications network; a second base station serving a second site and operable as part of a second wireless telecommunications network; the first and second telephone networks being connected together, whereby a call can be connected between the first base station and the second base station via the first wireless telecommunications network and the second wireless telecommunications network; and the access control system comprising: a data link of which use is restricted between the first network and the second network, whereby a call may be connected between the first network and the second network; and a first site link access control unit comprising a database for storing identities of wireless terminals at the second site for permitting calls to such terminals made at the first site to be routed from the first site to the second site over the data link.

System and method for allowing subscribers to make internal calls while roaming to other networks

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement against fraudulent use in a telecommunications network. The invention is based on the idea that at least one fraud profile identified by an identifier is created and the identifier is included in the subscriber data of some subscribers. Based on this identifier the fraud restriction parameters of the subscriber are retrieved from the subscriber's fraud profile, and these fraud restriction parameters are used in detecting and indicating possible fraudulent use. The fraud restriction parameters include values for different service limits, such as the maximum number of call forwarding re-quests and/or the maximum number of location updates during a certain period, and possibly at least for some features an action parameter related to a service limit and implemented when the service limit is reached.

Detecting and preventing fraudulent use in a telecommunications network

An access control system for controlling access by wireless terminals to a wireless telecommunications network, the access control system comprising: a database storing the identities of a set of wireless terminals belonging to the telecommunications network; a configurable store for storing a supplementary access value indicative of whether terminals that do not belong to the telecommunications network may access the network; and an access control unit for receiving an access request message indicating the identity of a wireless terminal and in response to that message accessing the database and/or the store to permit access by the wireless terminal to the wireless telecommunications network if: a. the identity of the wireless terminal is present in the database; or b. the supplementary access value indicates that terminals that do not belong to the telecommunications network may access the network.

Network access control

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for restricting the duration of communication in a telecommunications network. The invention is based on the idea that at least one restriction table is created with restriction parameters for monitoring the duration of sub-scriber's communication on the basis of the call type and the applicability of this restriction table to individual subscribers is indicated by a status parameter in subscriber specific data. Based on the call type, such as a forwarded or mobile originated call, the correct restriction parameter is retrieved from the restriction table for those subscribers for whom the status parameter is set &ldquo;on&rdquo; and the limiting value included in the restriction parameter is used in detecting and indicating calls of long duration. In one embodiment of the invention the restriction parameters are created to apply on the basis of call type and call direction.

Restriction of communication duration in a telecommunications network

A cellular radio access network and a location updating in a cordless communications system, in a cellular radio access network ( ), which is connected to one or more core networks ( ) or services (SP to SP ), each of them having a dedicated mobility management. In a cell, identities of all those location areas are broadcast to which said cell belongs. A subscriber terminal (MS) sends to the radio access network only one location updating message irrespective of how many core networks ( ) or services (SP to SP ) have a simultaneously changing location area at a handover from one cell to another. On the basis of the information contained in the location updating message, the network ( ) defines the core networks or services and location areas to which the location updating applies and sends a location updating message informing the new location of the subscriber or the subscriber terminal separately to each defined core network or service.
