The present invention relates to a water-resistant mineral-coated cellulose-based substrate, comprising a cellulose-based substrate, and a mineral-coating layer disposed on at least one surface of said substrate, said mineral coating comprising 50-95 wt % of a particulate mineral and 5-50 wt % of a water-dispersible binder based on the total dry weight of the mineral coating, and wherein said mineral-coating layer has been subjected to grafting with a fatty acid halide. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing the water-resistant mineral-coated cellulose-based substrate.

Method for hydrophobing a cellulose substrate (), which comprising a first side and a second side, which faces away from the first side. The method comprising the steps of drying a cellulose substrate () to a dry content above 80%, preferably above 85%, adding a vaporized fatty acid halide, to the first side of the cellulose substrate, and, at the same time perform vacuum sucking at the second side of the cellulose substrate, such that, the vaporized fatty acid penetrates the cellulose substrate () in a predetermined direction through the substrate.

Method for hydrophobing a cellulose substrate

Method for predicting properties of a product of cellulose-fibre-based pulp, paper or paperboard, wherein a suspension of cellulose fibre is subjected to analysis, during manufacture of the product, by spectroscopic measurements of a sample quantity of the suspension, in a spectrum in the wavelength range 200&#x2013;2500 nm. The method comprises diluting each sample quantity prior to analysis, dewatering and drying one partial flow and subjecting that partial flow to spectroscopic measurements, and analyzing a second partial flow of the diluted sample quantity for physical fiber data, by means of image analysis. Each sample quantity analyzed generates at least 100 data points from the spectroscopic measurement distributed in the selected spectrum, and at least 50 data points with regard to the physical fibre data, in the form of one or more physical fibre property distributions with regard to at least one physical property selected from fibre length, fibre width and fibre shape. The data points are combined in multivariate data processing for prediction of properties of the product, on the basis of calibrations previously executed on samples with known properties.
