An example method is provided in one example embodiment and may include communicating a message for a group of one or more user equipment (UE) from a machine type communication-interworking function (MTC-IWF) to a packet data network gateway (PGW), wherein the message includes a group identity (ID) associated with the group of one or more UE; communicating the message from the PGW to one or more serving gateways (SGWs); and communicating the message from each of the one or more SGWs to each of the one or more UE of the group of the one via a tunnel for each of the one or more UE.

System and method for providing message delivery and paging to a group of users in a network environment

Methods and apparatuses are provided for allocating an internet protocol (IP) address by a packet data network gateway (PGW) in a wireless communication system. A binding update message to request the IP address of a terminal, is received from a serving gateway (SGW). The IP address of the terminal is allocated. A binding acknowledgement message including the IP address is transmitted to the SGW. A dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) discover message is received from the SGW. A DHCP offer message including the IP address assigned to the terminal, is transmitted to the SGW.

Method and system for handling a dynamic host configuration protocol internet protocol version 4 address release

Methods and apparatus are provided for releasing an Internet Protocol (IP) address by a Packet Data Network (PDN) GateWay (PGW) in a mobile communication system. The PGW allocates, to a User Equipment (UE), an Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) address and an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address to activate a PDN connection. If the UE releases the IPv4 address: the PGW identifies whether a PDN type associated with the PDN connection is an IPv4/v6, which indicates that the UE is allocated both the IPv4 address and the IPv6 address; the PGW transmits, to a Serving GateWay (SGW), a Binding Revocation message including information indicating release of the IPv4 address with the PDN connection remaining if the PDN type is the IPv4/v6; and the PGW receives, from the SGW, a Binding Revocation acknowledge message to acknowledge release of the IPv4 address.

In general, techniques are described for providing a continuous feedback system that dynamically updates data collection criteria and subscriber policies based on aggregated subscriber-specific and network usage data. For example, a method includes applying one or more subscriber specific policy and charging control (PCC) rules to network traffic to collect network traffic data for a plurality of subscribers, aggregating the network traffic data, and determining, based on the aggregated traffic data, whether subscriber independent data collection criteria need to be updated. The method may also include, responsive to determining that the data collection criteria need to be updated: updating the data collection criteria, translating the updated data collection criteria from updated subscriber independent data collection criteria into updated subscriber specific PCC rules, and applying the updated subscriber specific policy and charging control rules to additional network traffic to collect additional network traffic data.

An example method is provided in one example embodiment and may include configuring paging parameters for a group of one or more user equipment (UE) based, at least in part, on a group identifier (ID) for the group of one or more UE; communicating the paging parameters to each of the one or more UE of the group; and paging one or more idle mode UE of the group according to the paging parameters to transition the idle mode UE to a connected mode for receiving a group message. In some instances, configuring the paging parameters can include configuring a paging frame and paging occasion for the group of one or more UE based on the group ID; configuring extended paging cycle radio frames for the group of one or more UE; and/or configuring a paging group Radio Network Temporary Identifier for the group of one or more UE.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for releasing an internet protocol (IP) address by a packet data network gateway (PGW) in a mobile communication system. The PGW allocates an IP version 4 (IPv4) address and an IP version 6 (IPv6) address to a terminal to establish a packet data network (PDN) connection between the terminal and the PGW. The PGW identifies a PDN type associated with the PDN connection if an event of releasing the IPv4 address has occurred. The PGW transmits, to a serving gateway (SGW), a binding revocation message, including information indicating release of the IPv4 address, with the PDN connection remaining, if the PDN type is IPv4 and IPv6. The PGW receives a binding revocation acknowledge message in response to the binding revocation request message, from the SGW.

A method and system for managing a plurality of network bearers in a wireless communication network is provided. The method includes identifying at least one of an initiation or an update of an instance of an application session. The method then generates an identifier associated with said instance of the application session. Further, the method assigns said identifier to each of the plurality of network bearers established as a result of said identified initiation or identified update of said instance of the application session. In an embodiment, the method uses the said identifier for managing communication during handover from a first communications network to a second communications. The method manages both video bearers and the voice bearers during the handover based on the said identifier.

Method and system to support single radio video call continuity during handover

In general, techniques are described for leveraging at least one of a policy control and charging or application detection architecture for an access network to dynamically control value-added services applied to packet flows. In some examples, a policy enforcement device receives a policy rule that defines at least one of policy control and application detection by an access network for a subscriber device. The policy rule includes a service chain identifier that identifies a service chain that defines one or more value-added services to be applied in a particular order to provide a composite service for application to packet flows associated to the service chain. The policy enforcement device receives a packet sourced by the subscriber device and destined to the packet data network, applies the policy rule to the packet to associate the packet to the service chain, and forwards the packet according to the service chain.

A method and apparatus for providing Multi-media Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) data to user equipment in a Multi-media Broadcast over a Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) environment over relay nodes are provided. The method includes periodically evaluating a synchronization delay associated with relay nodes in an MBSFN area by a DeNB, and assigning resources to the relay nodes for communicating MBMS data. The method also includes setting a time stamp in synchronization packets based on the synchronization delay. The time stamp information may indicate a start time for synchronized transmission of the MBMS data to user equipment in the MBSFN area over an air interface. The method may further include transmitting the synchronization packets including the MBMS data and time stamp information to the relay nodes using the allocated resources such that the MBMS data is synchronously transmitted to the user equipment by the relay nodes.

Method and apparatus for providing multi-media broadcast multicast services data to user equipment over relay nodes

A method and a Packet data network GateWay (PGW) for releasing an Internet Protocol (IP) address in a mobile network are provided. The scope of the invention also covers the case when the UE is capable of accessing both the WLAN and EUTRAN access systems simultaneously and also the case where the UE is not capable of accessing both the WLAN and EUTRAN access systems simultaneously. This invention provides a system and method to perform Mobility between the access systems with optimized authentication procedure using security context transfer between the access systems and also minimize the data loss by buffering the data during the handover. A method and system for releasing an Internet Protocol (IP) version 4 address using a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) release in a Proxy Mobile IP version 6 (PMIPv6) of a third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The method includes transmitting a DHCP release request from a Serving GateWay (SGW) to a Packet Data Network (PDN) GW, transmitting a binding revocation from the PDN GW to the SGW, acknowledging the binding revocation from the SGW to the PDN GW, and deleting the IP version 4 connection for an active PDN connection.

The present invention provides session continuity when a User Equipment (UE) moves from one network to another network. A method and system for providing access to nodes supporting, for example, both Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version (IPv6) on a network supporting only one of the IP versions are provided.
