Hearing device adjustment based on categorical perception

Detection of neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease can be accomplished through analyzing a subject's speech for acoustic measures based on human factor cepstral coefficients (HFCC). Upon receiving a speech sample from a subject, a signal analysis can be performed that includes identifying articulation range and articulation rate using HFCC and delta coefficients. A likelihood of Parkinson's disease, for example, can be determined based upon the identified articulation range and articulation rate of the speech.

Screening for neurological disease using speech articulation characteristics

A computer-implemented method for generating a test set for testing a subject using a computer system comprising logic-based processing circuitry is provided. The method includes the step of selecting one or more features from among a plurality of features, wherein a measurable effect on the subject of each feature selected is based on a predetermined threshold. The method also includes generating one or more classes of stimuli based on the selected features. The method further includes selecting stimuli from one or more of said classes for presenting to the subject.

System and methods for creating reduced test sets used in assessing subject response to stimuli

A tuning system for tuning a speech recognition system includes a transmitter for sending a user response to a speech recognition system. The user response is based at least in part on a test stimulus that may be generated by the control system. A receiver receives a recognized response from the speech recognition system; this recognized response is based at least in part on the associated user response. An adjustment module adjusts at least one parameter of the speech recognition system based at least in part on at least one of the test stimulus, the associated user response, and the recognized response.

Systems and methods for tuning automatic speech recognition systems

A method of tuning a hearing device includes sending a test signal to a model of a hearing device that may be remote from the actual hearing device being tuned. The test signal is encoded by the model and sent to the hearing device being tuned. The user of that hearing device sends a response signal based at least in part on the encoded test signal. This response is received and compared to the original test signal. Thereafter, an operational parameter is sent to the hearing device based on the comparison.

Systems and methods for remotely tuning hearing devices

A method of assessing hearing characteristics of a subject is provided. The method includes determining a hearing capability of the subject based on responses of the subject to a series of sounds presented to the subject. Each sound corresponds to a presence, absence or irrelevance of a predetermined plurality of features. The method further includes assigning the subject to one of a predetermined plurality of classes based upon the responses of the subject, each of the plurality of classes being derived from hearing tests performed on a plurality of other subjects.

A method and apparatus for analyzing speech are provided. A method and apparatus for determining an emotion state of a speaker are provided, including providing an acoustic space having one or more dimensions, where each dimension corresponds to at least one baseline acoustic characteristic; receiving an utterance of speech by the speaker; measuring one or more acoustic characteristics of the utterance; comparing each of the measured acoustic characteristics to a corresponding baseline acoustic characteristic; and determining an emotion state of the speaker based on the comparison. An embodiment involves determining the emotion state of the speaker within one day of receiving the subject utterance of speech. An embodiment involves determining the emotion state of the speaker, where the emotion state of the speaker includes at least one magnitude along a corresponding at least one of the one or more dimensions within the acoustic space.

Apparatus and method for determining an emotion state of a speaker

Systems and methods of screening for neurological and other diseases utilizing a subject's speech behavior are provided. According to one embodiment, a system is provided that includes an identification device used to determine a health state of a subject by receiving, as input to an interface of the device, one or more speech samples from the subject. The speech samples can be provided to the device by an intentional action of a user or passively due to the device being in the signal path of the subject's speech. The samples are communicated to a processor that identifies the acoustic measures of the samples and compares the acoustic measures of the samples with baseline acoustic measures stored in a memory of the device. The results of this determination can be communicated back to the subject or provided to a third party.

Systems and methods of screening for medical states using speech and other vocal behaviors

A method of tuning a digital hearing device can include playing portions of test audio, wherein each portion of test audio represents one or more distinctive features of speech. The method also can include receiving user responses to played portions of test audio heard through the digital hearing device and comparing the user responses with the portions of test audio. An operational parameter of the digital hearing device can be adjusted according to the comparing step, wherein the operational parameter is associated with one or more of the distinctive features of speech.
