A method for making nanomaterials includes introducing into a catalyzed reactor vessel: a carrier gas at a first carrier gas feed rate; at least one carbon-based reactant at a first reactant feed rate; and optionally, at least one additive at a first additive feed rate. The reactor vessel is heated to a first temperature of at least 150&#xb0; C., so that a portion of the carbon-based reactant within the reactor vessel reacts to form a plurality of nanomaterials. An exhaust gas is removed from the reactor and periodically sampled by exposing a paper web to the gas so that a sample of the nanomaterials from the gas are deposited on a region of the paper web for analysis. Based on this analysis, at least one reaction parameter selected from the group consisting of the first carrier gas feed rate, the first reactant feed rate, and first temperature may be adjusted.

Inline spectroscopy for monitoring chemical vapor deposition processes

The present disclosure is directed to methods for producing a single-walled carbon nanotube in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor. The methods comprise contacting liquid catalyst droplets and a carbon source in the reactor, and forming a single walled carbon nanotube at the surface of the liquid catalyst droplets.

Method for continuous and controllable production of single walled carbon nanotubes

The present disclosure is directed to methods for altering the surface of carbon fibers by growing carbon nanotubes thereon. Coverage of the carbon fibers by carbon nanotubes provides increased surface area and aspect ratio, as well as provides high electrical and thermal conductivity. In some embodiments, the surface of the carbon fibers are further modified via argon-ion bombardment or plasma treatment to provide controllable defects and to allow for easier growth of carbon nanotubes on the surface of the carbon fibers.

Alteration of carbon fiber surface properties via growing of carbon nanotubes

Method of growing carbon nanotubes which are substantially vertically aligned on a diamond-based substrate via a chemical vapor deposition system utilizing an iron-based catalyst is disclosed.
