Passive devices for non-invasive gastrointestinal (GI) sampling are disclosed. In some embodiments, a device includes a capsule housing containing an absorbent sampling hydrogel. The capsule may be ingested by a patient and subsequently travel through the GI tract. Once the capsule reaches a desired location in the GI tract, GI fluid may flow into the capsule through a sampling aperture of the capsule. The fluid may be absorbed by and stored within the sampling hydrogel for subsequent analysis, and the absorption of the fluid may cause the sampling hydrogel to expand within the capsule. The capsule may further include a sealing member positioned between the sampling hydrogel and the sampling aperture, and the expansion of the sampling hydrogel may press the sealing member against the sampling aperture to seal the capsule.

Capsule for gastrointestinal sampling

A printed radiation sensor that includes a substrate, an interdigitated electrode, and a conductive polymeric film. The interdigitated electrode including a first electrode with a plurality of first electrode digits and a second electrode with a plurality of second electrode digits. The interdigitated electrode disposed on the substrate. The conductive polymeric film including a blend of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The PEDOT:PSS is configured to provide an electrically conductive medium. The PVA is configured to provide ductility and stability of the printed radiation sensor. Upon radiation exposure, the PVA is further configured to crosslink within a material matrix of the printed radiation sensor militating against the recombination of chain scission by forming a semi-interpenetrating polymer network (SIPN) with the PEDOT:PSS to provide an enhanced and stable impedance reading.

Sensor system and method for gamma radiation dose measurement

Systems and methods for assessing a microbial characteristic within a growing medium. Such a system assesses one or more microbial characteristics, such as biomass and/or microbial activity, within a growing medium, such as soil. Electrical properties of a microbially degradable material in contact with the growing medium are measured. The measurements are used to determine the microbial characteristic(s) based at least partly on degradation of the microbially degradable material.

A humidity sensor may include a metalized substrate comprising a laser ablated portion and a remaining metal portion. The remaining metal portion may include a spiral inductor and an interdigitated capacitor. The interdigitated capacitor may be coupled in parallel with the spiral inductor. The interdigitated capacitor may be centrally positioned with respect to the spiral inductor and surrounded by spirals of the spiral inductor. The spiral inductor and interdigitated capacitor may be formed by selectively ablating the metallized substrate to define the inductor and capacitor.

Laser ablated wireless humidity sensor

A method for manufacturing an implantable device is provided. The method includes laser nano-texturing a titanium surface. The method further includes applying an aqueous silver ion solution to form a silver ion complex on the nano-textured titanium surface. The method also includes reducing, using laser-assisted photocatalytic reduction, the silver ion complex to silver ion particles which are immobilized on the nano-textured titanium surface.

Subsoil moisture monitoring system including battery-less wireless chipless sensors

A method of manufacturing a copper oxide (CuO) structure onto a Copper (Cu) surface by fabricating an electroactive hierarchical CuO structure directly onto the Cu surface by laser-induced oxidation (LIO). The generated heat from the laser source provides energy for the oxidation of the Cu surface in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. The electroactive hierarchical CuO structure is a binder-free nanotextured structure. The electroactive hierarchical CuO structure may be used as a glucose sensor.

Laser-induced atmospheric Cuo formation on copper surface with enhanced electrochemical performance

A collagen-fibronectin-based method enables the production of tumors of centimeter size with recognizable pathological traits. The method supports reproducing tumor heterogeneity with preinvasive and invasive phenotypes and stacking of tumor portions using a paper-scaffold with 80 μm-punched holes for larger nodule creation and easy separation of tumor portions for analysis. Macrotumors are convenient for testing drug delivery and therapeutic tools that necessitate a minimum tumor size relevant to in vivo.

A method of transducing electrical energy to sound is disclosed which includes providing a transducer, the transducer includes lead zirconate titanate (PZT) particles mixed with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) in a flexible substrate aligned in a first direction, forming a transducer subsystem, a first conductive protective electrode having a width and a length configured to provide a first electrical connectivity to an external circuit, and a second conductive protective electrode having the width and the length and configured to provide a second electrical connectivity to the external circuit, wherein the transducer subsystem is sandwiched between the first and second conductive protective electrodes, and providing an external circuit configured to provide an electrical signal to the first and second conductive protective electrodes to thereby transduce the electrical signal to sound.

The wearable accessory includes a conductor wire disposed in a moldable medium according to a predetermined pattern, the moldable medium being an electrically insulating material, the conductor wire terminating at an input and an output.
