Systems and methods for transmitting location-specific information such as wireless network connectivity information are generally disclosed herein. One embodiment includes device configurations and techniques implemented to establish a secondary wireless network connection to exchange the location-specific information between a location-aware device and a location-unaware device. In other embodiments, the location-specific information exchanged via the secondary wireless network connection includes the transfer of the connectivity information, such as a Service Set Identifier (SSID) or network authentication information, from a primary network-aware device to establish a primary network connection at a primary network-unaware device.

Identification-assisted wireless network connections

Systems and methods may provide for implementing a proximity-based coupling service. In one example, the method may include detecting, utilizing a first communication protocol, the presence of a second device by a first device, initiating a wireless network utilizing a second communication protocol, wherein the first device is to serve as a software-enabled access point (SoftAP), and configuring the second device to join the wireless network utilizing the second communication protocol.

Proximity-based coupling service

A mechanism is described for facilitating detection and communication of geo-locations for devices according to one embodiment. A method of embodiments, as described herein, includes tracking, at a first smart device, one or more devices including a second smart device, and first and second smart devices including a computing device, and establishing a first connection with the second smart device, establishing further comprising exchanging first location data between the first smart device and the second smart device, establishing further including communicating a first current location associated with the first smart device to the second smart device. The method may further include identifying a second current location associated with the second smart device. The second current location may be initially recorded and iteratively rewritten at a first local memory of the first smart device.

Mechanism for facilitating dynamic detection and communication of geo-locations for devices

Techniques for assisted network acquisition are described. An apparatus may comprise a wireless transceiver, a processor circuit communicatively coupled to the wireless transceiver, and a memory unit communicatively coupled to the processor circuit, the memory unit to store a network locator application operative on the processor circuit to locate a network for a remote device. The network locator application may comprise a network detector component operative to receive network information for multiple wireless networks via the wireless transceiver, a network selector component operative to select a target network for the remote device from the multiple wireless networks based on the network information, and a network notifier component operative to send network configuration information for the target network to the remote device. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques for assisted network acquisition

Devices and configurations to implement wireless network connectivity enhancements that improve wireless network connection time and operations are generally disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a reduced wireless network scan is performed to only scan wireless network channels associated with a preferred or previously profiled wireless network. If a preferred or profiled network is identified from the result of the reduced wireless network scan, then an automatic connection may be established immediately with the preferred or profiled wireless network. Performance of the reduced wireless network scan may be performed instead of a full wireless network scan, thereby saving the amount of time required to scan channels that do not have a preferred or profiled wireless network.
