A package has a transport/storage state for storing powdery material which is to be mixed with a solvent to form a medical solution. The package includes a compartment which is at least partially defined by two opposing wall portions, and a connector. In the transport/storage state, the compartment contains the powdery material in the form of at least two distinct sets of powdery material of different compositions, where the opposing wall portions are brought into engagement with the powdery material so as to immobilize the sets of powdery material. When used for preparation of the medical solution, a fluid is selectively admitted into the package via the connector so as to expand the compartment and enable mixing of the sets of powdery material with the solvent in the compartment.

Preparation of medical solutions from powdery material

A capping device is configured to terminate a connector while disconnected from another connector in a fluid transportation system, e.g., for peritoneal dialysis. The connector comprises an exposed surface portion that is enclosed when the connector is connected to the other connector. The capping device comprises a body defining a chamber with an opening, a liquid-containing disinfectant in the chamber, a sealing element arranged in the opening to form a sealed cavity retaining the disinfectant, and a structure for engaging and guiding the connector towards the body such that a portion of the connector displaces the sealing element into the chamber. The sealed cavity is configured such that a displacement of the sealing element into the chamber actively presses the disinfectant out of the sealed cavity, for disinfecting at least part of the exposed surface portion. The capping device may be manufactured by introducing the liquid-containing disinfectant into the chamber through the opening, and by arranging the sealing element in the opening to form the sealed cavity.

Maintaining sterile conditions in a fluid transportation system

A medical product configured for use in a medical system and a method of handling a medical system comprising a first subsystem and a second subsystem containing a medical fluid are provided. A connector connects the first and second subsystems for transport of the medical fluid from one of the subsystems to the other subsystem. The connector comprises a valve device, a first connection pipe connectable to the first subsystem, and a second connection pipe connectable to the second subsystem. The valve device comprises a first part and a second part, which are movable in relation to each other to permit an opening movement from a closed position, preventing a fluid communication between the first and second connection pipes, and an open position permitting the fluid communication. The medical product comprises a blocking member preventing, in a blocking state, the opening movement, and permitting changing of the blocking state to a non-blocking state permitting the opening movement.

Medical product, and a method of handling a medical system

A medical product is configured for use in a medical system. A method is provided for sterilizing the product. A connector connects a first subsystem and a second subsystem, containing a medical fluid, for transport of the medical fluid from the second subsystem to the first subsystem. The connector comprises a valve device, a first connection pipe connected to the first subsystem, and a second connection pipe connected to the second subsystem. The valve device comprises a first part and a second part movable relative to each other to permit an opening movement from a closed stable position, which prevents a fluid communication between the connection pipes, to an open position, which establishes a channel permitting the fluid communication. The connector comprises at least one small passage permitting, in the closed stable position, an introduction of a sterilizing gas to contact wall surfaces defining the channel.

Medical product, and a method of sterilizing a medical product

Apparatus for connecting a patient to a breathing device such as a respirator, anesthesia machine or the like is disclosed, including a Y-piece including a patient attachment tube, and a pair of additional attachment tubes adapted for connection to an inhalation tube and an exhalation tube, respectively, and including a bacteria filter disposed within the apparatus and separating the patient attachment tube from the two additional attachment tubes so that gases passing between the patient attachment tube and these two attachment tubes along a predetermined flow path must pass through the bacteria filter. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a partition wall arranged for separating inhaled air and exhaled air during passage through the Y-piece.

A system for preparing a fluid intended for a medical procedure substantially at the time of use by mixing of at least one concentrate in powder form with water. The system includes a reservoir for a source of water, at least one vessel containing a concentrate in powder form and a concentrate fluid circuit for withdrawing a small quantity of water from the reservoir and passing same through the vessel containing the concentrate in powder form in order to dissolve the concentrate to produce a concentrate fluid, and for then conducting the concentrate fluid to a primary fluid circuit communicating with the reservoir so that the produced concentrate fluid is mixed with the rest of the water withdrawn from the reservoir. In a preferred embodiment, the vessel comprises a self-contained cartridge containing a quantity of concentrate in powder form therein which is suitable for one treatment procedure. The system is intended in particular for the preparation of fluids for use in connection with medical procedures such as hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration and hemofiltration. However, it may also be used for the preparation of fluids for other medical procedures or treatments as well.
