One example includes fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) assembly. The FOG assembly includes a spool comprising a flange. The FOG assembly also includes an optical fiber comprising an optical fiber coil portion that is counter-wound in a first orientation and a second orientation opposite the first orientation. The optical fiber portion can be coupled to the flange. The optical fiber further includes a loopback portion with respect to the first orientation that is secured to the flange.

An interface for a hollow core fiber is provided that facilitates the direct pigtailing of the hollow core fiber to a port on an electro-optic device. The interface includes an angled face that attaches to the electronic device at an angle that minimizes optical power loss as light propagates from the electronic device to the hollow core fiber.

The invention relates generally to a modular display panel for enclosing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf ('COTS') display technologies. More particularly, the invention relates to a modular display panel for housing COTS light emitting or transmitting display subassemblies such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) for military and other severe environments. The modular display assembly can comprise a base plate, a first frame, a window, a second, a circuit located, and a plurality of light emitting diodes mounted on the circuit board. The COTS light emitting or transmitting display subassembly can be connected to the second frame.

In an exemplary display system adapted to display an image to an observer using a display where at least one of the display and observer is subjected to physical vibration referred to as jitter, accelerometers are mounted to elements subject to jitter and associated with the observer. A processing system uses acceleration measurements from the accelerometers to calculate an x-axis and y-axis jitter correction factors based on a comparison of the acceleration measurements, and generates a video output in which the visual information is displaced along the x-axis and y-axis based on the x-axis and y-axis jitter correction factors so that an image corresponding to the video output shown on the display appears to the observer as not having jitter.

A normally white super-twist nematic liquid crystal display is disclosed. Between a polarizer layer and an analyzer layer, the display includes a super-twist nematic liquid crystal cell having first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates. The display further includes at least one positively birefringent A-plate compensator layer disposed between the polarizer layer and the super-twist nematic liquid crystal cell and at least one positively birefringent A-plate compensator layer disposed between the analyzer layer and the super-twist nematic liquid crystal cell to reduce chromaticity shifts of the display at wide viewing angles and over temperature variations.

Film compensated normally white super-twist nematic liquid crystal

An improved normally white super-twist nematic (OMI) liquid crystal display exhibits a dramatically improved horizontal viewing angle as compared to conventional OMI displays. The display's liquid crystal cell has a twist angle greater than about 180.degree. and less than about 270.degree., preferably between 220.degree. and 250.degree., and a phase retardation of between 500 nanometers (nm) and 850 nm. The improved display includes a novel compensator which incorporates, as one of its compensation elements, a positively birefringent oblique compensator layer (referred to as an O-plate compensator layer). Additionally, a positively birefringent A-plate compensator layer and one or more negatively birefringent C-plate compensator layers may be used in the display.
