A prognostic and health monitoring system for a device with a rotating component is provided. The system includes a plurality of sensors. Each sensor is configured to sense a parameter of the device. A controller is in communication output sensor signals. The controller, based on instructions stored in a memory, is configured to filter the output sensor signals based on operational speed data of the rotating component to obtain normalized sensor data, construct multivariate gaussian distribution parameters from the normalized sensor data using a central limit theorem, compare a model generated with a learning algorithm applied to previous constructed multivariate gaussian distribution parameters with the constructed multivariate gaussian distribution parameters, and determine a state of the device based at least in part on the comparison of model with the constructed multivariate gaussian distribution parameters. A communication system communicates the determined state of the device to a remote location.

In some examples, a system includes a magnet configured to move in response to a movement of a wear pin indicator of a brake assembly of a vehicle; and a sensor configured to generate position data corresponding to the magnet, the position data indicating a relative linear position of the wear pin indicator, wherein the position data corresponds to an estimated remaining useful lifespan of the brake assembly. Additionally, the system includes an energy harvesting device configured to generate an electrical signal based on an operation of one or both of the brake assembly and the vehicle, wherein the energy harvesting device is configured to deliver at least a portion of the electrical signal to the sensor.

A system includes a first levitation magnet. The system also includes a suspension magnet configured underneath the first levitation magnet. The suspension magnet oscillates continuously. Magnetic flux cuts across electrical coil windings. Energy is generated as a result of the magnetic flux that cuts across the electrical coil windings. A second levitation magnet is positioned underneath the suspension magnet and first levitation magnet. The suspension magnet is configured to levitate between the first levitation magnet and the second levitation magnet.

An apparatus and method for measuring the position of a member. The apparatus has a sonic waveguide, a generator for generating an interrogation sonic wave at a first position in the sonic wave guide, and a transducer for converting the interrogation sonic wave, at a second position in the sonic wave guide, to an interrogation signal. A timer can be enabled in response to the generator generating the interrogation sonic wave and stopped in response to the transducer converting the interrogation sonic wave so as to determine the propagation time delay of the interrogation sonic wave and the distance between the first and second positions. When the transducer is attached to a member, the position of the member can be determined from this distance. The apparatus can include a transmitter for transmitting the interrogation signal. The generator can be configured to generate an excitation sonic wave which is converted by the transducer to a power signal for powering the transmitter.

A closed loop magnetic sensor system for measuring an input magnetic field from a magnetic field source has a compensation circuit, which can be for example a printed wire board, and a magnetic sensor, such as a Magnetoresistive (MR) sensor, for measuring an input magnetic field. Preferably, the magnetic sensor is magnetically coupled to the compensation circuit by arranging the magnetic sensor in an air gap provided in the compensation circuit. The compensation circuit has a compensating conductor, arranged on or in a dielectric medium, which can be configured as a plurality of nested coils. Electrical control circuitry, electrically, coupled to the magnetic sensor and compensating conductor, is adapted and arranged to drive a feedback current through the compensating conductor according to the output of the magnetic sensor such that the input magnetic field is substantially compensated at the magnetic sensor. The magnetic system can serve as current sensor for sensing current through a primary conductor.

Closed-loop magnetic sensor system

A method for self-calibrating a sensor can be implemented in a system having a calibration circuit. The calibration circuit has differential circuitry which compares an output signal of the sensor with a predetermined reference signal associated with a reference property. A bias controller increments or decrements the sensor operating bias according to the deviation between the predetermined reference signals and sensor output signal such that the sensor output corresponds to the predetermined reference voltage. The calibration circuit can be embedded in the sensor to provide a self-calibrating sensor. Logic circuitry can be used to form the calibration circuit.

Self-calibrating sensor

The invention provides pressure sensors for use in wet environments. A pressure sensor package according to the invention has a housing having a pair of cavities separated by a wall member. Sequentially contained within one cavity is a conductive elastomeric seal pad, a pressure sensor and an elastomeric media seal. A pressure cap is attached to the housing such that the pressure cap and the housing together form a hermetic seal. The pressure cap has a port for admitting a gas under pressure into the first cavity. A signal amplifier is positioned within the second cavity and a cover encloses the signal amplifier within the second cavity. An electrical connector through the wall member forms an electrical connection between the pressure sensor and the signal amplifier. A lead frame extends through the housing and forms electrical connections with the pressure sensor and the signal amplifier.
