At least one example is a method comprising: retaining a bone marker on a distal end of an installation tool, the bone marker comprising a polyhedron having a fiducial pattern on each of at least three outward facing surfaces of the polyhedron, an externally-threaded screw extending distally from the polyhedron, and a flange proximate to an intersection of the polyhedron and the externally-threaded screw; positioning a distal end of the externally-threaded screw against a bone at a marker location; screwing the externally-threaded screw into the bone by way of the installation tool; and trapping tissue against the bone beneath the flange.

A marker deployment system and method of operation are provided. The system includes a handle extending radially from and longitudinally along a main axis. A driver tube is coupled to and extends from the handle along the main axis from a proximal tube end to a distal tube end and defines a tube bore extending axially therethrough. The distal tube end is configured to support a bone marker. An inner rod extends axially through the driver tube to a distal rod end that includes a retention fastener configured to engage and selectively secure the bone marker at the distal tube end. A knob is operably coupled to the inner rod and is rotatable about a knob axis of rotation extending along the main axis to secure or release the bone marker. At least a portion of the handle extends axially beyond the knob to define the proximal handle end.

Methods and systems for fiducial marker deployment in medical procedures

Determining orientation of cutting windows of a mechanical resection instrument. At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: sensing a location of a cutting window through an outer tube of the mechanical resection instrument, the sensing based on a magnetic field strength of a first magnet; sensing a location of a cutting window through an inner tube concentrically disposed within the outer tube, the sensing based on a combined magnetic field strength of the first magnet and a second magnet; and stopping a rotation of the inner tube relative to the outer tube with the cutting window through the outer tube and the cutting window through the inner tube in a predetermined orientation, the stopping based on the combined magnetic field strength.

Systems and methods of determining orientation of cutting windows of a mechanical resection instrument

The present disclosure relates to an arthroscopic resection device. The device includes an outer member including a hub, an inner member including a hub, the inner member housed within the outer member, a tube coupled to the outer member, and means for allowing longitudinal movement of the outer member relative to the inner member, the means coupled to the tube. A method of tissue repair and other arthroscopic resection devices are also disclosed.

Featured is a closed loop surgical system including one or more control units that are configured to form a fluid control subsystem for fluid control and a device control subsystem for controlling a surgical device. The two control subsystems in combination provide an automatic self-managed closed loop system for the control of fluid into and out of the surgical site by means of intelligent communication and for maintaining a preselected pressure desired by the surgeon. In particular embodiments, this is accomplished by utilizing empirically correlated motor speed and load measurements, based on supplied current, from the surgical resection device when using its specific resection capability. For example, automatically adjusting fluid flow responsive to changes in loading of a surgical device or automatically sensing a load change for the surgical device during a surgical procedure and automatically changing (increasing or decreasing) fluid flow responsive to the load change.

Closed loop surgical system

A medical device that includes an outer tube assembly that includes a straight outer tube, an inner tube assembly that includes a straight inner tube disposed within the outer tube, and at least one interference member on the outer tube assembly and at least one interference member on the inner tube assembly. The inner tube and the outer tube are configured to rotate relative to each other to resect tissue at a distal end of the inner and outer tubes. The interference members are configured to prevent a force exerted along a longitudinal axis of the inner tube from separating the inner and outer tubes without rendering the medical device unusable.

A surgical instrument includes a cutting member with an implement for cutting tissue, and a drive coupled to the cutting member to simultaneously rotate and translate the cutting member in response to a three applied to the drive. A method of cutting tissue includes positioning an outer member such that tissue is located within the outer member, engaging the tissue with an inner member, and simultaneously rotating and translating the inner member to cut the tissue. A tangential cutting force is applied to the tissue with the inner member to mechanically cut the tissue. The inner member is mechanically driven to undergo simultaneous rotation and translation.

Reciprocating rotary arthroscopic surgical instrument

The present disclosure relates to a cutting tool that includes an outer tubular member having a first magnet and an inner tubular member having a second magnet wherein the inner tubular member is slidably disposed within the outer tubular member. A force, such as an attractive force, is created between the first magnet and the second magnet. The attractive force creates a preload force between the inner tubular member and the outer tubular member. A method of creating a force between an inner and outer tubular member is also disclosed.

A magnetic coupling motor drive unit includes a motor housing containing a motor and a magnetic drive hub assembly, the magnetic drive hub assembly having a drive hub and a driven hub, the driven hub rotating about a driven hub spindle, the driven hub spindle attached to a seal cap, the seal cap sealing the drive hub and the motor to the motor housing, wherein the drive hub includes an array of magnets aligned to a respective array of magnets in the driven hub.
