An illumination device includes a bulb including a segment of at least second order curvature and a cylindrical segment. A least two laser diodes are coupled with the bulb such that laser beams emitted by the at least two laser-diodes propagate inside the bulb through total internal reflection. The laser beams propagating in the bulb expand in the bulb, are evenly mixed and exceed outward from the bulb as a volumetric light flux.

A method of digitally printing pages with bleed of a document and digital printing apparatus system for printing pages is provided. The information for printing is generated automatically. The method includes the steps of identifying and marking pages with bleed, calculating image size on pages with bleed, determining whether the pages should be printed on a single sized printing medium, and printing all pages of the same document on a selected printing medium when a single sized medium is selected.

A method for inspecting a surface of a printing medium, the method comprising the steps of acquiring an image of the surface or a portion thereof, digitizing the acquired image whereby a digitized real representation of the surface or portion is obtained. A color printing apparatus and method for printing separate color images onto the two sides of a substrate, which includes a number of image bearing cylinders, not necessarily of the same size, each of which is related to a single color and an imaging mechanism for imaging each of the cylinders with two separate images. The apparatus includes a number of transfer mechanisms for simultaneously transferring each of the images of each of the cylinders onto the substrate, with at least one of the images being transferred to each side of the substrate, and each of the images being transferred to the substrate from a different location along each of the cylinders. Finally, the apparatus includes a turnover mechanism for turning the substrate over between the transferring of the first of the images of all of the cylinders and the transferring of the second of the two images. A similar apparatus can also be used in monochrome printing using a single imaging cylinder. Both continuous-web and sheet-fed systems may be used.
