Disclosed is a cutting insert having a generally polygonal primary body having a primary body base connected to an opposing and similarly-shaped body face through a plurality of primary flank portions extending there between. The cutting insert further includes at least one cutting protrusion extending away from at least one of the primary flank portions, and merging therewith. The cutting protrusion includes a rake face coplanar and extending away from the adjacent primary flank portions, and an edge portion extended towards a cutting flank portion. The cutting protrusion further includes a tip flat extending between a rake front from a protrusion tip towards a rake root portion, adjacent one of the primary flank portions.

Cutting insert

The invention relates to a cutting tool with a holder, a cutting insert and a screw, wherein the holder has at least one seat with a base, a first side wall and a second side wall, wherein in a plane parallel to the base the first side wall extends in a first direction and the second side wall includes an acute angle (C) with the first side wall, wherein the base has a threaded hole for receiving the screw, wherein the cutting insert has a cut-out for the screw, wherein the cutting insert has a base contact surface, a first positioning surface and a second positioning surface, and wherein in a locked position the base contact surface, the first positioning surface and the second positioning surface of the cutting insert contact the base, the first side wall and the second side wall of the at least one seat, respectively, wherein the second side wall is offset from the threaded hole in the first direction towards a front end of the seat, and in that a screw head of the screw and the cut-out of the cutting insert are provided with complementary conical surfaces, such that when tightening the screw the cutting insert is forced with the first positioning surface and the second positioning surface against the first side wall and the second side wall, respectively.

Cutting tool for a cutting machine

A cutting tool comprising a tool holder () with a pocket () and a cutting insert () in the shape of a polygon having at least three side surfaces (). The pocket () is provided with a base support surface () and at least two lateral support surfaces (). The cutting insert () is releaseably securable in the pocket () with two side surfaces of the insert () abutting the two lateral support surfaces () of the pocket (). At least one of the side surfaces () and at least one of the lateral support surfaces () are provided with a notch () and a complimentary rib element () extending in an axial direction of the insert and interacting for providing an end stop of the cutting insert () in the pocket ().

Cutting tool, cutting insert and tool holder

A cutting tool for grooving and parting operations, comprising a tool holder provided at one of its side faces with a pocket in the shape of a polygon confined by a base support surface and at least a first and second side support surfaces projecting from the base support surface. A cutting insert is releasably securable in said pocket, said cutting insert being formed with a blade part and a base part with lateral surfaces protruding from the blade part. The base part is received in said pocket, such that a first and a second lateral surface of the base part contact the first side support surface and the second side support surface of the pocket, respectively. The first lateral surface is provided with a recess to the inside of the cutting insert, and the first side support surface is provided with a complementary projection to the inside of the cutting insert.

Cutting tool for grooving and parting operations

A thread-milling cutter including a tool holder () and at least one cutting insert () with a longitudinal cutting edge () mounted on it. The tool holder () includes at least one pocket () extending essentially in an axial direction (A) and adapted for receiving the at least one insert (). The cutting insert () has at least one positioning plane () on a first abutment surface of the insert () opposite the cutting edge () for a radial positioning of the insert () in the respective pocket (). At least one protrusion () is provided on the abutment surface, a side surface () of the protrusion () being oriented at an angle (&#x3b1;) to the axial direction (A) of the cutter () and adapted for contacting a surface () of the pocket () for an axial positioning of the insert (). Thread-milling cutter and thread-milling insert

The invention relates to an indexable insert having a first and a second insert surfaces (), three side faces () and a cutting projection (), wherein the cutting projection () comprises at least one first and one second cutting tooth (), cutting edges () are formed on the cutting teeth () at a transition region to the first second insert surface () respectively, a first chip flow direction (A) assigned to the first cutting edge () forms an angle with a second chip flow direction assigned to the second cutting edge (), a first and a second chip breaker surface () are assigned in the chip flow direction to the first and the second cutting edges (), respectively, the chip breaker surfaces () comprise at least one first and one second groove, respectively, on the first and the second insert surfaces () which extend essentially perpendicularly to the respective chip flow direction (A). The invention also relates to a tool comprising an indexable insert and to a method of producing the same.

Indexable insert

A cutting tool has an insert holder provided with an insert receiving pocket and at least one cutting insert mounted therein. The insert receiving pocket has a longitudinally extending inner wall, a rear wall adjacent the inner wall and a lower wall adjacent the inner wall and the rear wall. A front end of the lower wall protrudes forwardly with respect to a central portion of the insert holder. A front protrusion rises upwardly from the lower wall and extends inwardly and rearwardly from a periphery of the insert holder. The front protrusion has a front surface perpendicular to the lower wall. A groove formed in the bottom surface of the cutting insert has a distal side wall perpendicular to the bottom surface. When assembled, a radial abutment surface of the cutting insert abuts a radial abutment surface of the insert receiving pocket, the front surface of the front protrusion abuts the front distal side wall of the groove and a rear portion of the one cutting insert is spaced from the rear wall of the insert receiving pocket.

Cutting tool and cutting insert therefor

A cutting tool having replaceable indexable cutting insert retained in insert pockets. Each insert pocket has a base wall and first and second rear sidewall sections. A generally circular recess having a peripheral wall extends downwardly from the base wall. The cutting insert comprises an upper surface, a side surface and a lower surface from which a cylindrical protrusion extends downwardly. A first abutment surface located on the first rear sidewall section abuts a first support surface located on the side surface of the cutting insert, a second abutment surface located on the second rear sidewall section abuts a second support surface located on the side surface of the cutting insert, and a third abutment surface located on the peripheral wall of the recess abuts a third support surface located on the cylindrical protrusion of the cutting insert.

A cutting tool assembly rotatable about an axis of rotation comprising a tool and a plurality of cutting inserts mounted therein. The tool comprises a crown affixed to a tool body. Each one of the cutting inserts has an even number of indexable cutting edges and is clamped in the tool in an insert receiving pocket that is generally radially directed. The tool body has a conical surface against which the cutting inserts abut, the conical surface extends to the periphery of the tool body, is inwardly rearwardly slanted and has equally peripherally distributed substantially radially directed recesses.
