The present invention relates to a method for the production of molecules with seven carbons constituted by a chain of four carbons with three methyl branches, primarily triptane (2,2,3-trimethylbutane), by alcohol coupling reaction (Guerbet reaction), resulting in an alcohol with a four-carbon chain with three methyl branches, which is transformed into triptane. The importance of this method stems from the fact that triptane is the hydrocarbon with the greatest capacity to resist compression without ignition and can be used in unleaded aviation gasolines and in the formulation of high-octane automotive gasolines.

The present invention refers to a process for producing a renewable isoparaffin compound with a high octane rating, comprising a step of Guerbet reaction between an initial C5 alcohol charge obtained from renewable raw material and methanol to produce a branched renewable C6 alcohol; dewatering of the branched renewable C6 alcohol into a C6 olefin; and hydrogenation of the C6 olefin into renewable isoparaffin. A renewable isoparaffin compound with a high octane rating, comprising at least 50% carbon of renewable natural origin in its composition, and use of said renewable paraffin in gasolines in general and in special high-performance gasolines, such as aviation gasoline, are also described.

Diesel cycle fuel compositions are described containing at least one dianhydrohexitol compound according to the general formula 2 and/or its derived hydrocarbyl ethers or nitric ethers compounds, where the R' and R&#x2033; substituents are both H or one or both of R&#x2032; and R&#x2033; is alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl, or one or both are &#x2014;NO. A preferred fuel composition is that containing dimethyl isosorbide (DMI) added or not of isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) as ignition improver. The dianhydrohexitols compounds form compositions with at least one of the components selected among petroleum-derived diesel fuel, biodiesel, ethanol and water. The mixture of DMI and ISDN has excellent cetane number (IQT). Still, the oxygenated nature of the dianhydrohexitols and related compounds of the fuel compositions inhibits soot formation upon burning of the said Diesel cycle fuel compositions.

A process is disclosed for converting polysaccharides to platform chemicals. The process comprises dissolving the polysaccharides in a inorganic molten salt hydrate, converting the polysaccharides to monosaccharides, and converting the monosaccharides to platform chemicals that are easily separable from the inorganic molten salt hydrate. Preferably the polysaccharides are provided in the form of a biomass, more preferably a ligno-cellulosic biomass.

A process is disclosed for converting a polysaccharide-containing biomass material to platform chemicals. The process comprises dissolving the polysaccharides in an inorganic molten salt hydrate, converting the polysaccharides to monosaccharides, and converting the monosaccharides to derivatized (di)anhydro sugars that are easily separable from the inorganic molten salt hydrate. The present invention relates to a process for removing organic silicon compounds from hydrocarbon streams by contact with an adsorbent and hydrogen. The adsorbent is composed of lamellar double hydroxides and group VI-B or group VIII hydrogenating metal. A process for the selective hydrodesulfurization of a naphtha containing olefins and organosulfur compounds is disclosed, which minimizes the hydrogenation of the olefins and results in a product with a low sulfur content. The process involves a two-stage hydrodesulfurization with HS removed from the first stage effluent. A flow of hydrogen and at least one added non-reactive compound is fed into the first stage, wherein the Hmolar fraction ranges from 0.2 to 1.0, and with HS at the reactor intake limited to a maximum of 0.1% by volume. The second stage involves a feedstream of hydrogen and at least one added non-reactive compound, wherein the Hmolar fraction ranges from 0.2 to 0.7 and with HS at the reactor intake limited to a maximum of 0.05% by volume.

Process for selective hydrodesulfurization of naphtha

A process for the selective hydrodesulfurization of naphtha streams containing olefins and organosulfur compounds that minimizes olefin hydrogenation and results in a reduced sulfur content product. This is attained by two-stage hydrodesulfurization and HS removal from the first stage effluent, with the first reaction stage catalyst being a more active HDS catalyst than the second reaction stage catalyst. Hydrogen and a non-reactive compound are fed to the first stage, with the Hmole fraction in the mixture of Hand non-reactive compound being from 0.2 to 1.0. HS at the reactor inlet is limited to not more than 0.1% by volume. Hydrogen and a non-reactive compound are fed to the second reaction stage, the Hmole fraction in the mixture of Hand non-reactive compound being from 0.2 to 0.7. HS at the reactor inlet is limited to not more than 0.05% by volume.
