A system for managing mobile electronic communications devices includes a user directory database configured to hold authentication data associated with at least one user, an authentication authority communicatively connected to the user directory database, an administration server configured to send and receive command messages with at least one mobile electronic communications device, a messaging server configured to send and receive communications messages with at least one mobile electronic communications device, and the authentication authority, administration server, and messaging server are configured to send and receive data via a data communications network. The authentication authority accepts or denies authentication data for a user received from at least one mobile electronic communications device, stores status information corresponding to authenticated users in the user directory database, and stores an association between each authenticated user and each mobile electronic device that sent authentication data for an authenticated user in the user directory database.

System and method for administration and operation of one or more mobile electronic communications devices

A mobile electronic communications device includes a housing, a memory, a data entry mechanism, a display for visual data, at least one wireless transceiver configured to transmit and receive electromagnetic signals conforming to a plurality of wireless signaling protocols, and a controller. The controller is communicatively connected to the memory, data entry mechanism, and display; and is configured to send and receive data using the at least one wireless transceiver. The controller detects available wireless networks using at least one of the plurality of wireless signaling protocols, compares network identifications of available wireless networks to a predetermined list of network identifications ordered by preference, establishes a wireless network connection with an available wireless network having a network identification corresponding to a most preferred network identification in the predetermined list of network identifications, and executes an authentication process in response to establishing the wireless network connection.

A system controls computer network communication devices in a background session in accordance with a control database. The system includes a computer network communication device having a non-volatile memory containing a unique device identifier and a communication module for communicating with a control site, the communication module being configured to generate monitor messages containing the unique device identifier and data corresponding to entry of a command by a user and to parse command messages received from the control site, and a control site comprising a device database and a control database, the control site being configured to compare data in the monitor message to control data stored in the control database in response to the monitor message having a unique device identifier that is also stored in the device database.

Broadcast signals are detected and matched with signal information, such as call letters, genre and geographical location for corresponding signal sources, based on the geographical location of the receiver and the frequency at which the signals are broadcast. The signal information is stored with signal and medium selection data, so that signal sources provided via different communication media, such as broadcast radio and Internet streaming audio, can be accessed, sorted, selected and displayed together. Thus, a user can group for display information about signal sources transmitting a type of music that the user enjoys, via any communication medium that the receiver supports. Also, a currently selected signal source and communication medium can be matched with a different communication medium for the same source, so that if the received signal deteriorates, the receiver can switch to the different communication medium for receipt of the same signal.

Real-time synchronized voice communications during a multi-player game is disclosed. A server is connected to client computers, players. Players can speak into a microphone and have their voice transmitted to all players or a select few. Digitized voice communications are transmitted along with other game data. Player speech and game data is synchronized and reproduced in the same order it was captured.
