A device may include a power source, two or more lamps for providing light, and a controller. The controller may be configured to periodically select a first combination of one or more of the lamps, provide power from the power source to the first combination of the lamps, select a second combination of one or more of the lamps, and switch the power from the first combination of the lamps to the second combination of the one or more of the lamps after a period of time has elapsed.

Extending service life of lighting fixtures

The present invention discloses an edge-lit panel for emergency lighting using dual mode illumination. The panel includes active lighting by the own light source of the equipment and passive lighting by photo-luminescent pigments coated on various surfaces of the panel. Thus, this edge-lit panel provides an improved and extended visibility of electrically energized edge-lit emergency signs during power failures.

A switching power supply includes a bridge rectifier, a switching device, and a controller. The bridge rectifier is operatively coupled to an alternating current (ac) signal, and outputs a rectified signal. The switching device is electrically connected in parallel with the bridge rectifier. The controller is responsive to the rectified signal and selectively controls the switching device to divert at least a portion of the rectified signal therethrough in response to the rectified signal. A method of supplying power includes coupling a bridge rectifier operatively to an alternating current (ac) signal, the bridge rectifier outputting a rectified signal, coupling a switching device electrically in parallel with the bridge rectifier, and controlling the switching device to divert at least a portion of the rectified signal therethrough in response to the rectified signal.
