Some implementations include a system having at least one thermally insulated coiled tubing and a bottom hole assembly (BHA) connected to the at least one thermally insulated coiled tubing. The BHA includes at least one capacitor, the at least one capacitor configured to store electrical power. The BHA also includes at least one electrode electrically coupled to the at least one capacitor, the at least one electrode configured to receive the stored electrical power from the at least one capacitor and to periodically emit pulsed power discharges into a subsurface formation.

Provided is a coiled tubing reel, a method, and a method for connecting an end of coiled tubing string to a coiled tubing reel. The coiled tubing reel, in one aspect, includes a drum having a first end and a second end, and first and second flanges coupled to the drum, the first and second flanges configured to axially and radially support a coiled tubing string wound upon the drum. In one or more aspects, the coiled tubing reel further includes a coiled tubing exit opening extending through a sidewall thickness (t) of the first flange proximate a junction wherein the first flange couples to the drum, the coiled tubing exit opening configured to allow a radially interior end of the coiled tubing string to exit the first flange at a reduced angle.

A system for controlling pressure applied in a well intervention operation using a physics-based model is provided. The system can include a stripper element that includes a pressure retention element for sealing a wellbore during an intervention operation that uses coiled tubing; a stripper circuit that includes a hydraulic actuator to apply a pressure to the pressure retention element; a processing device coupled to the hydraulic actuator that can receive, from the stripper circuit, a feedback signal. The processing device may receive a physical characteristic of a component and then determine, using data from the feedback signal and the physical characteristic, a minimum pressure level to contain wellhead pressure. The processing device may then output a command to cause the hydraulic actuator to change the pressure on the pressure retention element to be the minimum pressure level or within a pre-set deviation of the minimum pressure level.

Controlling surface pressure during well intervention

A system is provided including a coiled tubing reel apparatus including a reel drum for storing a coiled tubing string spooled on the reel drum and a hydraulic reel drive motor that controls rotation of the reel drum. The system further includes a reel controller that determines an estimated reel back tension for a portion of the coiled tubing string between the reel apparatus and the injector based on a set of parameters related to a coiled tubing operation. The reel controller determines a target reel back tension to be applied to the portion of the coiled tubing string by adjusting the estimated reel back tension based on a historical job dataset. The reel controller then determines and sets a target hydraulic pressure of the reel drive motor to achieve the target reel back tension in the portion of the coiled tubing string.

A system is provided including a coiled tubing injector including at least two gripper chains for gripping a coiled tubing and a gripper system for generating a gripper force applied to the at least two gripper chains by adjusting gripper pressure on at least one gripper cylinder. A gripper controller is configured to determine a minimum gripper pressure and a maximum gripper pressure for the gripper cylinders, based on a current set of parameters related to lowering the coiled tubing into a wellbore or pulling out the coiled tubing from the wellbore. The gripper controller selects a target gripper pressure between the minimum gripper pressure and the maximum gripper pressure based on a historical data model and sets the target gripper pressure for the at least one gripper cylinder.

Method and apparatus for hydraulic steering of downhole rotary drilling systems

A method for treating a subterranean wellbore. More specifically, a method for removing wellbore solids. A first, polymer containing fluid is placed in the solids bed. A second, viscosifying fluid is then placed into the solids bed thereby agitating the solids in the bed and causing the formation of a gel capsules when mixed with the biopolymer fluid. These gel capsules are capable of trapping or entraining the agitated solids. The gel capsules typically have a relatively high volume and a relatively low density, thereby making their removal from the wellbore easier.

This invention relates to a method for use in coiled tubing operations wherein fatigue of the coiled tubing owing to short trips is reduced by reducing the number of bending and straightening events that coiled tubing undergoes to accomplish a particular wellbore objective. The invention relates to a method that allows the coiled tubing reel and tubing reeled thereon to remain stationary while making small movements of coiled tubing using the injector.
