A system for alerting a user includes a first device for vehicle-to-pedestrian communication. The first device is operable by a pedestrian. The system further includes a vehicle operable by a driver including a second device for vehicle-to-pedestrian communication. The system is configured to provide an alert via at least one of the first device and second device to at least one of the driver and the pedestrian.

Some embodiments are directed to a computer-implemented method for controlling a vehicle and includes determining a current environment of the vehicle based on a current location of the vehicle, and detecting vulnerable road users (VRUs) disposed in proximity to the vehicle based on messages communicated using a vehicular communications network. The system and method also include determining a current location and a speed of a pedestrian based on the pedestrian data and building at least one vehicle polygon that represents a predicted path of the vehicle. The system and method additionally include building at least one pedestrian polygon that represents a predicted path of the pedestrian. The system and method further include determining if the at least one pedestrian polygon intersects the at least one vehicle polygon and actuating a warning based on an intersection of the at least one pedestrian polygon with the at least one vehicle polygon.

Vehicle pedestrian safety system and methods of use and manufacture thereof

A vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) communication system and method of operating same including acquiring V2P parameters from at least one of a first V2P device associated with a user or a second V2P device integrated with a vehicle associated with the user. Detecting a pedestrian state transition of the user based on the V2P parameters. The pedestrian state transition indicates at least one of a change in a classification of the user from a pedestrian state to a driver state or a change in the classification of the user from a driver state to a pedestrian state. The systems and methods are directed to a vehicle control system for use with: a vehicle communications network, at least one source of pedestrian data relevant to at least one pedestrian's location, and at least one source of vehicle system data relevant to the vehicle's location and movement. A vehicular communications network for use with at least one source of historical path data relevant to historical conditions of a vehicular path, at least one source of current path data relevant to current conditions of the path, and vehicle location data relevant to a vehicle's location on the path. The vehicular communications network can include a processor that is configured to: access the historical path data, the current path data, and the vehicle location data, determine the vehicle's current location based on the vehicle location data, determine a path pattern relevant to the determined vehicle current location based on the historical path data, and predict an anticipated path condition based on the determined path pattern and the current path data. A driver vehicle interface can be configured to communicate the anticipated path condition to the vehicle operator.

A vehicle system is in communication with a mobile device. The vehicle system receives information from the mobile device and determines the quality of the information. If the quality of the information is acceptable, the vehicle system may use the information from the mobile device. In addition, the quality of the information may be used to determine if the information should be sent to other vehicles.
