Some embodiments provide transmission of a request to access a voice message mailbox to a voice mailbox provider, transmission of caller information to the voice mailbox provider, and reception of a voice message associated with the caller information from the voice mailbox provider. According to various embodiments, the caller information may be associated with a selected contact, with a caller who initiated a missed voice call, and/or with a particular voice message mailbox.

Some embodiments provide reception of a call from a calling party to a called party, acquisition of a voice message form the calling party to the called party, reception from the calling party a selection of an email message sent to the called party, and association of the voice message with the email message.

A telecommunications system includes a user database storing user information; a text-to-speech generator; and a default user greeting generator for a messaging system for generating a greeting based on a text-to-speech conversion of user information using said text-to-speech generator. The system may further include a presence service adapted to monitor a user context, wherein the default greeting generator can generate a context sensitive user greeting based on said user context.
