Multiport assemblies comprising one or more optical ports for receiving an external optical fiber connector for making an optical connection along with useful mounting features for securing the multiport assembly are disclosed. The multiport assembly comprises a mounting member having an aperture and a standoff that is coupled to a shell. The standoff extends outward from a lower surface of the shell to allow easy mounting to irregular surfaces. In another embodiment, the multiport assembly may comprise a second mounting member with an aperture and standoff that is received in a rear shell aperture to inhibit damage to the multiport assembly if a fastener is over-tightened during mounting. In further embodiments, the multiport assembly may comprise a dust plug having a locking feature and a keying port that is received in an optical port for inhibiting dirt, dust or debris from entering when the optical port is not in use.

Fiber optic cable assemblies having a construction suitable for a first deployment scenario where the optical connection is made to the device externally that may be transformed for a second deployment scenario where the optical connection is disposed within an internal cavity of the device are disclosed. The cable assembly has one or more cable legs disposed within a profile support element and are disposed under the heat shrink. The fiber optic connectors are exposed and suitable for optical connection with the heat shrink intact on the cable assembly and the profile support element further provides further flexibility using different outer housings with the cable assembly when making external optical connections to the device Thus, the concepts disclosed advantageously allow a single cable assembly to support multiple deployment scenarios in the field, thereby reducing complexity.

A fiber optic terminal having a radio access node for providing wireless connectivity within a coverage area. The fiber optic terminal can also include active modules capable of gathering data and reporting the data to a network operator. The active modules can be accommodated at the exterior of a terminal and may gather data such as information relating to the environment of the terminal. Active terminals can also be accommodated within the terminal and can gather and/or process information such as an operating status of a network, terminal operating status, and other information.

Optical terminators comprising a ferrule assembly with an optical filter for providing a reflective event in an optical network are disclosed. The optical filter assembly reflecting one or more preselected wavelengths so that the service provide can test optical links in an unmated connection node of the optical network. In one embodiment, the optical terminator has a hardened connector interface for outside plant applications. A ferrule assembly comprises the optical filter, and at least a portion of the ferrule assembly is disposed within the connector housing of the optical terminator. In another embodiment the connector housing comprises a locking feature integrally formed into the body of the connector housing for securing the reflective terminator. Other embodiments comprise a sealing element for sealing a rear end of the reflective terminator, a plug end of an outer housing having first and second fingers, and a coupling nut disposed about a portion of the outer housing. The optical terminator advantageously allows the network operator to test and determine the operation of a branch of the optical network without having to send a technician to physically visit and test the operation of the desired link in the optical network.

In one embodiment, a method of preparing a round fiber optic cable includes applying a cable orientation guide to a portion of the fiber optic cable. The fiber optic cable includes a jacket, a first strength member, a second strength member, and an optical fiber. The strength members and the optical fiber are disposed within the jacket along a strength axis. Applying the cable orientation guide rotates the fiber optic cable such that the strength axis is positioned along a preferential axis. The method further includes forming a punched area in the jacket. The method also include removing a portion of the jacket forward of the punched area to provide a flat end face defined by the punched area for attaching the cable to a retention body of a fiber optic connector.

Disclosed herein is a traceable fiber optic cable assembly with indication of polarity. In particular, the traceable fiber optic cable assembly includes a traceable fiber optic cable, a first duplex connector at a first end of the fiber optic cable, and a second duplex connector at a second end of the fiber optic cable. A first tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the first duplex connector offset from a central axis of the first duplex connector, and a second tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the second duplex connector offset from a central axis of the second duplex connector. The tracing optical fiber receives an optical tracing signal for propagation to the second tracing end of the first tracing optical fiber to indicate a first orientation of the first duplex connector corresponding to a first polarity state of the traceable fiber optic cable assembly.

A fiber optic ribbon cable includes a stack of fiber optic ribbons, strength members surrounding the stack, and a jacket defining an exterior of the cable. The jacket forms a cavity through which the stack and the strength members extend. The stack has a bend preference, but the strength members are positioned around the stack or are flexible in bending such that the strength members do not have a bend preference. Furthermore, the jacket is structured such that the jacket does not have a bend preference. The cavity is sized relative to the stack in order to allow the stack to bend and twist within the cavity with respect to the jacket as the cable bends, facilitating movement of the optical fibers of the fiber optic ribbons to low-stress positions within the cavity and decoupling the bend preference of the stack from transfer to the jacket.
