A dry powder inhalation apparatus includes a housing, a reservoir for medicament located within the housing, a mouthpiece disposed on the housing for insertion in the mouth of a user for inhalation of a predetermined dose of medicament, a delivery channel between a discharge outlet of the reservoir and the mouthpiece for delivering the predetermined dose of medicament, a device positioned within the housing and normally held adjacent the reservoir for receiving the predetermined dose of medicament from the discharge outlet and transferring it to the delivery channel, and a release mechanism adapted to release the device and permit controlled movement thereof to the delivery channel for the delivery, the release mechanism being located at least partially outside of the housing for manual operation by the user.

A mechanism of the apparatus for achieving this controlled and smooth transfer includes a device normally held adjacent a reservoir for receiving medicament in a cup or receptacle and which is generally movable transversely of a longitudinal axis of the apparatus to delivery channels of the apparatus. This bodily shifting of the device is achieved by a yoke acting on an abutment thereof. Spillage of medicament in the apparatus is avoided.

A dose counter for use in connection with a device adapted for metered dispensing of a medication is described. The dose counter has a first count indicator that has a first indicia bearing surface, with the first count indicator being rotatable about a first axis. The dose counter also has a second count indicator that has a second indicia bearing surface, with the second count indicator being rotatable about a second axis. The second axis is disposed at an obtuse angle with respect to the first axis, and the first and second indicia bearing surfaces align at a common viewing area to collectively present at least a portion of a medication dosage count.

A dry powder inhaler including a housing having a mouthpiece and a delivery passageway connected to the mouthpiece, a magazine positioned within the housing and including a plurality of reservoirs for holding doses of dry powder, and wherein the magazine is movable within the housing so that the reservoirs are sequentially positioned within the delivery passageway of the housing upon movement of the magazine, a cover connected to the housing and movable to open and close the mouthpiece of the housing, and a rake connected to the cover, extending into the housing and engageable with the magazine so that, upon the cover being moved to open the mouthpiece, the rake moves the magazine and causes one of the reservoirs of the magazine to be positioned within the delivery passageway.

A medicament delivery system comprises a nebulizer device, an open-faced mist chamber-defining element having a tubular input/output port, a tubular inhalation port connecting to the output port of the mist chamber-defining element, and a sealed unit dose ampoule adapted to fit within the mist chamber-defining element. The nebulizer device includes an ultrasonic transducer responsive to applied electrical energy to generate ultrasonic energy, an ultrasonic transmission horn between an input energy surface at an input end and an energy delivery surface at an output end. The sealed unit dose ampoule can be placed directly into the nebulizer device and acts as both the dose cup and baffle, so that the chance of spillage of drug and the number of components to be cleaned are minimized.
