An electronic device may comprise a number of ports configured to removably receive pluggable modules, such as optical transceivers. The electronic device may also comprise processing circuitry comprising a power management engine. The power management engine may be configured to monitor system properties of the electronic device, port properties of the ports, and/or pluggable module properties of any pluggable modules installed in the ports. The power management engine may further be configured to dynamically select a high-power mode or a low-power mode for each of the pluggable modules installed in the ports based on the monitored properties.

Dynamic pluggable module power management

Examples described herein relate to improved powering down of PoE interfaces in a network device. In response to detecting a fault that interrupts a flow of power from the PSUs to one or more of the PoE interfaces, the examples determine a total operational power value based on an operational power value of each operational PSU of the PSUs and determine a total available power value based on the total operational power value and a reserved power value. For each of the PoE interfaces, the examples determine whether a threshold power value for the PoE interface exceeds the total available power value and power down the PoE interface in response to determining that the threshold power value for the PoE interface exceeds the total available power value.

Power down of power over Ethernet interfaces

Examples described herein provide improved power down of PoE interfaces. Examples described herein may set a power fault value for each of a plurality of PSUs, and set a power threshold value for each of a plurality of PoE interfaces. Examples described herein may detect a fault that interrupts a flow of power from a subset of the PSUs to at least one of the PoE interfaces, and based on detecting the fault, for each PSU in the subset of the PSUs, add the power fault value for the PSU to a total power fault value. Examples described herein may, for each of the PoE interfaces, determine whether the total power fault value satisfies the power threshold value for the PoE interface, and based on a determination that the total power fault value satisfies the power threshold value for the PoE interface, power down the PoE interface.

Power down of power over ethernet interfaces

Systems and methods described herein leverage dependence relationships between sensor readings to facilitate rapid detection of erroneous sensor readings and rapid response times when accurate sensor readings indicate events that call for remedial action. When a target sensor reports a questionable sensor reading, systems described herein can query additional sensors whose readings share expected dependence relationships with readings from the target sensor. Systems described herein determine whether the questionable sensor reading is trustworthy based on the expected dependence relationships and additional sensor readings received from the additional sensors. If the questionable sensor reading is trustworthy, the system can trigger appropriate remedial action and increase query rates for the additional sensors (and the target sensor) to monitor an underlying event more closely. If the questionable reading is not trustworthy, the system can trigger appropriate remedial action (e.g., by deactivating the sensor or sending an alert to an administrator).

Sensor reading verification and query rate adjustment based on readings from associated sensors

Systems and methods described herein reduce contention on shared buses through which multiple sensors send sensor readings to a computing destination by allowing different query rates for each sensor and dynamically adjusting the query rate for each sensor based on the readings that sensor reports. A first query is sent to a sensor via a bus to request a current sensor reading from the sensor. In response to the first query, the sensor sends the current sensor reading via a bus. A function of the current sensor reading, a predefined time range, and a predefined reading-value range is evaluated to determine a time interval between the first query and a second query to be sent to the sensor. When the amount of time elapsed since the first query was sent matches the time interval, the second query is sent to the sensor via the bus to request an updated sensor reading.
