Use of a moulding composition comprising a polymer and a setting agent for wound debridement, wherein said use comprises adding water to said moulding composition to form a moulding fluid, applying said moulding fluid to a surface of a wound, allowing said moulding fluid to set in contact with said surface to form a solid covering on said surface, followed by removing said solid covering from the wound. The alginate composition adheres strongly to bacterial biofilms on the wound, whereby the biofilms are removed with the alginate composition. The moulding composition may be used in conjunction with a staining agent that undergoes a color change in the presence of bacteria or bacterial polysaccharides to show the presence and removal of the biofilm. Also provided are methods of treating wounds using the compositions.

Wound treatment

The present invention relates to monitoring patients for an inflammatory condition or infection (preferably wound infection) by testing an extracellular fluid such as a wound fluid for an elevated level of: (i) vimentin; (ii) a vimentin breakdown product; or (iii) a marker indicative of the presence of vimentin. The present invention provides methods of diagnosis and prognosis, wound dressings, devices (e.g. biosensors) and kits for use in such methods.

Measurement of cytoskeletal proteins and uses thereof in diagnosis, prognosis and therapy

A wound dressing composition comprising a non-viable cell lysate or releasate derived from a hepatocyte cell or an inflammatory cell such as a macrophage. Also provided are wound dressings comprising such compositions, methods of making such compositions, and the use of such compositions for the treatment of wounds.

Wound dressing compositions

The present invention relates to the diagnosis, prognosis and/or treatment of wound infection by testing wound fluid for the presence of a marker which is present in an amount which is indicative of infection. The marker may be high molecular weight phospholipase A(cPLA) or a marker which is correlated with cPLA.

An indicator device adapted give a detectable signal when the antioxidant capacity of a sample of a mammalian wound fluid exceeds a predetermined minimum level which is characteristic of an infected wound. Also provided system for use in the diagnosis and treatment of wounds comprising the inventive diagnostic device and a wound dressing comprising at least one antimicrobial agent for selective application to infected wounds. Also provided are methods of diagnosis and treatment by means of the inventive device and system.

Marker of wound infection

The present invention relates to a method of determining the microbial bioburden in a wound (in particular a diabetic ulcer) in a test subject, the method comprising the step of measuring the level of a cytokine in a wound sample, wherein a cytokine level lower than a reference level indicates a significant microbial bioburden in the wound (or a cytokine level higher than a reference level indicates an insignificant microbial bioburden in the wound). The invention provides methods of diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of wound infection, and devices and kits for use in such methods.
