A method for fabricating a photoreceptor including: (a) preparing a first stable coating dispersion including a solvent, a first polymer, and a charge generating material; and (b) diluting the concentration of the charge generating material by adding an amount of a second polymer to the first stable coating dispersion without losing the dispersion stability thereof, thereby resulting in a second stable coating dispersion.

Photoreceptor fabrication method involving a tunable charge generating

A photoreceptor includes a supporting substrate and an outer layer on the photoreceptor, the outer layer including silicone oil uniformly dispersed as vesicles in a continuous film forming polymer matrix. This photoreceptor is used in a xerographic copier/printer machine and contributes to a longer operating life of the machine by providing continuous lubrication, decreased friction and decreased wear of the interaction of the photoreceptor and other machine parts. This photoreceptor is prepared by incorporating silicone oil and at least one film forming polymer in at least one solvent, removing the solvent and forming a dried outer layer in which the silicone oil is phase separated from the other components of the top layer forming small vesicles which are uniformly dispersed in the continuous film forming polymer matrix. The silicone oil provides lubricity to the outer surface of the photoreceptor without adversely affecting print quality and this lubricity is renewed throughout the life of the photoreceptor.

This invention discloses a method of holding and transporting a hollow flexible belt throughout a coating process. The method includes placing an expandable insert into the hollow portion of a seamless flexible belt, and expanding the insert until it forms a chucking device with a protrusion on at least one end. A mechanical handling device is then attached to the protrusion, and will be used to move the chuck and the belt through the dipping process, as materials needed to produce a photosensitive device are deposited onto the surface of the belt, allowing it to be transformed into an organic photoreceptor. The chucking device and flexible belt are then removed from the mechanical handling device, the belt is cut to the desired width, and the chuck is removed from the inside of the photoreceptor.

There is disclosed an assembly for selectively coating a hollow, cylindrical first substrate defining a first open end region having an outer surface and an inner surface and a second open end region, the assembly including a first plug member fabricated from a nonwetting material, wherein the plug member has a bottom surface defining a pallet coupling feature and a top surface defining a cavity region encompassed by a circumferentially extending rigid side wall having an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the first end region of the substrate is disposed in the cavity region where the inner surface of the side wall grips the outer surface of the first end region of the substrate to couple the first plug member to the first end region, whereby the plug member minimizes coating of the outer surface and the inner surface of the first end region of the substrate by a coating solution.

The spring portion of the assembly until it is transformed into a belt carrying chucking device. A process for dip coating drums comprising providing a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, providing at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, flowing liquid coating material from the bottom of the vessel to the top of the vessel, immersing the drum in the flowing liquid coating material while maintaining the axis of the drum in a vertical orientation, maintaining the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, maintaining laminar flow motion of the coating material as it passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical interior wall of the vessel, maintaining the radial spacing between the outer surface of the drum and the inner surface of the vessel between about 2 millimeters and about 9 millimeters, and withdrawing the drum from the coating vessel.

Apparatus for dip coating comprising a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, an inlet at the bottom of the vessel, the inlet adapted to feed flowing coating fluid into the vessel, a mandrel adapted to maintain the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the flowing coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, and at least one flow regulating member adapted to maintain laminar flow motion of the coating material as the fluid passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical inner wall of the vessel.
