An energy absorber assembly for a motor vehicle includes a first deformable energy absorbing component and at least one deformable second energy absorbing component associated with a grille assembly of the motor vehicle. The first energy absorbing component defines at least one receiver for engaging a corresponding portion of the at least one second energy absorbing component whereby the receiver and the mating surface remain engaged on receiving an impact. The first energy absorbing component is carried on a bumper assembly or attached to a fascia assembly of the motor vehicle, and the second energy absorbing component is included in a grille carrier component of the motor vehicle grille assembly.

A reinforced liftgate is provided for a vehicle. That reinforced liftgate includes an inner panel having a first aperture and a first reinforcing plate having a second aperture. The first reinforcing plate engages the inner panel so that the first and second apertures are aligned. A first ball stud is mounted to the inner panel in the first and second apertures. In one embodiment the liftgate also includes a hinge reinforcement.

A door trim substrate having a construction which includes, in combination, an energy-absorbing pre-crush protective portion and a pelvic bolster portion is provided for use in a vehicle. The pre-crush protective portion is configured so as to protect the pelvic bolster portion from pre-crush in a vehicle side-impact event. The pre-crush portion is defined by a rib cassette structure which is preferably integrally molded into the door trim substrate below the pelvic bolster portion.
