A touch language to be used by handicapped persons, such as deaf people, blind people, and deafblind people, is provided by the present invention. A method for communicating visual images, such as those of a television program, to a handicapped person comprises the steps of providing at least one device for physically transmitting information about the visual images to the handicapped person and delivering a key word describing a portion of the visual images to the handicapped person using the at least one device.

Touch language

A public addressing and emergency system has a person or message signal generator for generating a message whose contents comprise at least one of a sign language message, a voice message, and a text message and a transmitting system for transmitting the message signal to at least one of a mobile unit and at least one fixed display unit in at least one location. The message signal transmitting system is bi-directional enabling bi-directional message communication and may include a device such as a splitter for generating multiple signals and/or a device such as a booster for increasing or maintaining the power of the signals. The public addressing system can be independent, or tied in with internal processing of commercial entities and their electronic displays to present advertising and educating the public about the emergency system.

Sign language public addressing and emergency system

A device for use by a deafblind person is disclosed. The device comprises a first key for manually inputting a series of words in the form of a code, a second key for manually inputting an action to be performed by the device, a third key for manually inputting a user preference, and a fourth key for manually inputting communication instructions. The device further has an internal processor programmed to carry out communication functions and search and guide functions. The device has various safety and security functions for pedestrians or persons in transit. In a preferred embodiment, the device comprises an electronic cane known as an eCane. Also disclosed is a system for allowing a deafblind person to enjoy television programs.

Devices for use by deaf and/or blind people

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for seamlessly transitioning text into sign language. The apparatus comprises an encoding module and a translation module. The encoding module includes a camera for recording visual images of a model signing words and phrases, a video box for providing each of the images with a position code, and a processing unit with a memory for storing each of the recorded images so as to create a database of sign language video clips. The translation module includes a processing unit, a monitor associated with the processing unit for displaying a visual output in seamless sign language and a textual output, and a memory containing the database associated with the processing unit.

Method and apparatus for seamless transition of voice and/or text into sign language

An electronic communications system for the deaf includes a video apparatus for observing and digitizing the facial, body and hand and finger signing motions of a deaf person, an electronic translator for translating the digitized signing motions into words and phrases, and an electronic output for the words and phrases. The video apparatus desirably includes both a video camera and a video display which will display signing motions provided by translating spoken words of a hearing person into digitized images. The system may function as a translator by outputting the translated words and phrases as synthetic speech at the deaf person's location for another person at that location, and that person's speech may be picked up, translated, and displayed as signing motions on a display in the video apparatus.

Telephone for the deaf and method of using same

The present invention relates to a system and a method for carrying out personal transactions including financial transactions, e-mail transactions, and voice messaging transactions. A user of the system is issued a ten digit identification number in the form of a telephone number. The identification number may be the user's actual phone number or a pseudo phone number. The user is also assigned a PIN number which contains a single or multiple digit security element which allows the user to indicate a security problem and its nature by dialing the assigned PIN number and which allows the user to avoid tripping the security elements of the system by using a digit or digits other than that/those assigned as the significantly placed digit(s) in the PIN number. Access to the system is provided either by dialing a central telephone number or via the Internet.

System and a method for carrying out personal and business transactions

A method for entering and facilitating the input of an Internet Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address into a URL address window including the steps of providing an interactive device for connecting to the Internet via a web browser having a URL address window, where the interactive device includes an operating system which employs a cursor and a cursor device for communicating position commands to the operating system, connecting to the Internet using the interactive device and the web browser, positioning the cursor over the URL address window, receiving a cursor position command, validating the cursor position command, displaying an enlarged text window, entering a desired URL address into the enlarged text window, inserting the entered URL address into the URL address window and engaging the interactive device so as to cause the web browser to be communicated with the URL address.
