The present invention is a tunable bandpass filter to provide a constant absolute bandwidth across a tuning range, comprising of a pair of resonators to determine a filter center frequency, each said resonator has a rectangular waveguide cavity, wherein said filter center frequency depends on the dimensions of said rectangular waveguide cavity; a pair of side walls attached to said pair of resonators to form a filter housing; a tuning element movably attached to at least one of said pair of side walls and extending in said filter housing and movable orthogonally to said pair of resonators, and wherein said dimensions of said rectangular waveguide cavity change by moving said tuning element, thereby said filter center frequency is changed.

Tunable bandpass filter with constant absolute bandwidth using single tuning element

The present invention is a high Q tunable co-axial filter, which maintains a constant absolute bandwidth and a constant Q over the tuning range. The present filter can be tuned by a single rotational mechanism irrespective of the filter order. A plurality of tunable resonators is aligned on a common filter axis. Each resonator has a casing having an inner wall and a cavity. The resonators are coupled by an iris opening. A pair of end plates completes the filter casing. A rotating rod placed on the common axis of the resonated, that has a tuning post attached to it, and each post located in each resonator, is used to tune the filter.

Tunable filter with minimum variations in absolute bandwidth and insertion loss using a single tuning element

A triple-band bandpass filter with at least one cavity resonator. Each cavity resonator has the same three orthogonal resonances modes corresponding to three unique resonance frequencies. The three unique resonance frequencies define the passbands of the filter. The filter has an input probe coupled to an input cavity resonator. The filter has an output probe coupled to an output cavity resonator. The input and output probes are shaped to concurrently couple signal waveforms in each of the resonance modes. Coupling probes that can be used as input or output probes are also provided. An inter-cavity coupling operable to concurrently transmit signal waveforms in each of the resonance modes is also provided. The inter-cavity coupling can be used to transmit signals between adjacent cavity resonators in the filter.

Multi-band bandpass filter

A tunable bandpass filter to provide a constant absolute bandwidth across the entire tuning range. The filter comprises of a plurality of tunable resonators, each having an enclosure. A resonating structure extending upwardly from the bottom surface of the enclosure and a tuning screw with a flat head extending downwardly from the top surface of the enclosure, wherein the resonating structure and the flat head of the screw face each other and form a gap. The height of the tuning screw can be adjusted to change the gap between the resonating structure and the flat head. The adjustable gap of the present filter allows for tunable filter operation.

Three dimensional tunable filters with an absolute constant bandwidth and method

A rod-switched tunable resonator includes a housing defining a cavity, a first rod disposed within the cavity, a second rod disposed within the cavity, and a switch connected to the first rod and to the second rod to tune the resonator to one of a plurality of frequencies by connecting or disconnecting one or both of the first and second rods to the housing. A tunable filter may be fabricated using two or more such resonators. The rod-switched tunable resonator may be a combline resonator, coaxial resonator, waveguide resonator, or dielectric resonator.

According to one aspect, a system for sensing ethanol from human skin, that comprises at least one apparatus for sensing ethanol and a coupling matrix readout extraction unit for performing a method of extracting a coupling-matrix readout. The at least one sensing apparatus and the coupling matrix readout extraction may be mounted on a substrate. The substrate may be adapted such that it can be formed into a wearable accessory that can be worn by a human subject. When the wearable accessory is worn by the human subject such that the subject provides a skin tissue sample to the accessory, the presence or concentration of ethanol and other compounds may be determined from the vapor associated with the tissue sample.

The tunable bandpass filter is used for filtering an electromagnetic signal, has a system passband between a first and a second tunable cutoff frequencies, and has a first subfilter and a second subfilter connected to one another in series between an input port and an output port and being complementary to one another in the tunable bandpass filter. At least one of the first subfilter and the second subfilter being connected to operate in reflection.

Tunable bandpass filter

This invention provides novel combline resonators with multiple conductors and multiple dielectrics for compact filters and multiplexers with improved electric response. The novel combline resonator consists of multi-conductors being made up for the simplest case of an inner metallic post, an intermediate conductor, and an enclosure. This structure provides two resonant modes that can be used for realizing compact microwave filters and multiplexers. Such filters offer the low cost, compact size and ease of manufacturing features of traditional combline resonator filters, with additional size reduction due to the fact that a single physical cavity provides two electrical resonators. In addition, the new cavity inherently introduces a transmission zero in the guard-bands enhancing the filter selectivity.

Method of operation and construction of filters and multiplexers using multi-conductor multi-dielectric combline resonators

An embodiment radio frequency MicroElectroMechanical (RF-MEMS) tunable bandpass filter includes one or more tunable resonators, each of which includes an electrically reconfigurable capacitor bank, a tuning screw, and a resonating structure. In an embodiment, the capacitor bank includes fixed value capacitors and switches to vary the capacitance of the resonator. In an embodiment, the capacitor bank includes variable capacitors and direct current (DC) bias circuits to vary the capacitance of the resonator. The filter may be incorporated into a time division duplexing (TDD) base station or other wireless communications device.

Tunable bandpass filter device and method

A waveguide switch based on alternating short and open loads in a waveguide path. In one embodiment, the switch being made up of four waveguides connected by sections of ridge waveguides where simple short-circuit loads can be activated to control the signal paths. The switch being adapted for the C-, R- and T-type switches. Another embodiment of the same device being adapted for SPT type switched.

Compact multiport waveguide switches

A vibration-based power generator has a variable stiffness oscillator connected to a base. The oscillator comprises an inertial mass moving relative to the base in response to vibrations. The oscillator has a neutral position corresponding to a position of the oscillator when no vibrations are transmitted to the base. The oscillator has a first position where the mass is at a first distance and a second position where the inertial mass is at a second distance from a position of the mass when the oscillator is in neutral position. The second distance is greater than the first distance. A stiffness of the oscillator at the second position is greater than a stiffness of the oscillator at the first position. A transducer generating electric power in response to movement of the inertial mass is associated with the oscillator. A method of optimizing a vibration-based power generator is also presented.

Vibration-based power generator

Novel quadruple-mode, dual-mode, and dual-band filters as well multiplexers are presented. A cylindrical dielectric resonator sized appropriately in terms of its diameter D and length L will operate as a quadruple-mode resonator, offering significant size reduction for dielectric resonator filter applications. This is achieved by having two mode pairs of the structure resonate at the same frequency. Single-cavity, quad-mode filters and higher order 4n-pole filters are realizable using this quad-mode cylindrical resonator. The structure of the quad-mode cylinder can be simplified by cutting lengthwise along its central axis to produce a half-cut cylinder suitable for operation in either a dual-mode or a dual-band. Dual-mode, 2n-pole filters are realizable using this half-cut cylinder. Dual-band filters and diplexers are further realizable using the half-cut structure and full cylinder by carrying separate frequency bands on different resonant modes of the structure. These diplexers greatly reduce size and mass of many-channel multiplexers at the system level, as each two channels are overloaded in one physical branch. Full control of center frequencies of resonances, and input and inter-resonator couplings are achievable, allowing realization of microwave filters with different bandwidth, frequency, and Return Loss specifications, as well as advanced filtering functions with prescribed transmission zeros. Spurious performance of the half-cut cylinder can also be improved by cutting one or more through-way slots between opposite surfaces. Size and mass reduction achieved by using the full and half-cut resonators described, provide various levels of size reduction in microwave systems, both filter level, and multiplexer level.

Method of operation and construction of dual-mode filters, dual band filters, and diplexer/multiplexer devices using half cut dielectric resonators

A multi-port RF MEMS switch, a switch matrix having several multi-port RF MEMS switches and an interconnect network have a monolithic structure with clamped-clamped beams, cantilever beams or thermally operated actuators. A method of fabricating a monolithic switch has clamped-clamped beams or cantilever beams.

A unitary resonator assembly for use in dielectric resonator filters and multiplexers. The unitary resonator assembly comprises a plurality of resonators joined by bridges, where the resonators and bridges are all constructed from a single piece of a dielectric material. The unitary resonator assemblies may be used in conjunction with unitary mounting structures that support a unitary resonator assembly in a filter or multiplexer. Also disclosed are 2-pole, 4-pole, and triplet filters implementing a unitary resonator assembly in conjunction with a unitary mounting structure, and a diplexer implementing a unitary resonator assembly in conjunction with a unitary mounting structure.

Dielectric resonator filter assemblies and methods

A three dimensional waveguide is integrated with a MEMS structure to control a signal in various RF components. The components include switches, variable capacitors, filters and phase shifters. A controller controls movement of the MEMS structure to control a signal within the component. A method of construction and a method of operation of the component are described. The switches have high power handling capability and can be operated at high frequencies. By integrating a three dimensional waveguide with a MEMS structure, the components can be small in size with good operating characteristics.
