Systems and methods described herein improve a customer experience for non-standalone cellular networks by displaying a secondary cell group (SCG) network icon after data activity ends while a user device likely remains in SCG coverage. When connected to the SCG, the user device detects inactivity on the connection and initiates a first timer, based on the detecting, while continuing to present an SCG-related icon. If the first timer expires while the user device is in an idle state, the user device initiates a second timer, while continuing to present the SCG-related icon. If the user device detects an active connection before expiration of the second timer, the user device initiates a third timer while continuing to present the SCG-related icon. If the user device fails to detect a connection to the SCG before expiration of the third timer, a master cell group (MCG)-related icon is displayed.

System and method for indicating coverage types for user devices in dual connectivity wireless networks

Systems and methods described herein improve a customer experience for non-standalone celular networks by displaying a secondary cell group (SCG) network icon after data activity ends while a user device likely remains in SCG coverage. When connected to the SCG, the user device detects inactivity on the connection and initiates a first timer, based on the detecting, while continuing to present an SCG-related icon. If the first timer expires while the user device is in an idle state, the user device initiates a second timer, while continuing to present the SCG-related icon. If the user device detects an active connection before expiration of the second timer, the user device initiates a third timer while continuing to present the SCG-related icon. If the user device fails to detect a connection to the SCG before expiration of the third timer, a master cell group (MCG)-related icon is displayed.

A method includes receiving metrics associated with traffic that complies with a grade of service (GOS) associated with a customer premises equipment (CPE) device, where the metrics identify a group of cells via which the traffic is received by the CPE device. The method also includes retrieving information associated with traffic conditions within a group of base stations; initiating a load balancing operation when traffic conditions within a base station indicate that a particular cell, associated with the base station, is congested; and sending, to a set of base stations that send traffic to the CPE device, a notification, where the notification causes traffic, not destined for the CPE device, to be rerouted to another base station, which enables the base station to send traffic, that complies with the GOS, to the CPE device, or causes the CPE device to receive traffic, that complies with the GOS, from a further based station.

Load balancing to provide a target grade of service (GOS)

A device is configured to determine quality of service information and determine a set of service classes, associated with a wireless local area network, based on the quality of service information. The device is configured to determine an association between the set of service classes and a set of service identifiers. The device is configured to receive data traffic and to determine a service class, of the set of service classes, associated with the data traffic based on the association between the set of service classes and the set of service identifiers. The device is configured to schedule delivery of the data traffic based on the service class and to deliver the data traffic via the wireless local area network.

Quality of service access device

A device receives an address from a computer terminal; determines a location associated with the address; and determines a current signal quality at the location by referencing a file that represents an area that includes the location. The device further determines whether the location qualifies for a fixed wireless service based on the current signal quality. The device also transmits information to the computer terminal. The information indicates whether the location qualifies for the fixed wireless service.

Qualifying locations for fixed wireless services

A device receives configuration information that instructs the device about when to send content to a user device. The device also receives content from an application server at a first time, and stores the content. The device determines, based on the configuration information, that the content is to be sent to the user device, and sends the content to the user device based on the determination. The content is sent to the user device at a second time that is later than the first time.

Cache and delivery based application data scheduling

A network device within an outdoor broadband unit receives, via Ethernet over coaxial cable signals, Internet Protocol (IP) data traffic originating from a device within a local area network (LAN). The IP data traffic is buffered in a memory within the outdoor broadband unit. A forwarding plane module of the network device sends the IP data traffic toward a destination via an air interface for a wide area network (WAN). The network device receives, via different Ethernet over coaxial cable signals, IP control traffic originating from the device within the LAN. A control plane module of the network device implements the instructions in the IP control traffic to initiate a test function for the network device.

Coaxial cable interface to outdoor broadband unit

A device receives, from a content provider, traffic parameters associated with a video content request received from a fixed user device connected to a wireless access network, and determines, based on the traffic parameters, a trigger for creating a dedicated bearer for the fixed user device in the wireless access network. The device also provides the trigger to the wireless access network, where the wireless access network creates the dedicated bearer for the fixed user device based on the trigger, and the wireless access network assigns quality of service (QoS) parameters, based on the traffic parameters, to video content delivered to the fixed user device.

Video content delivery over wireless access networks with quality of service (QOS) guarantees

One or more devices may receive, from a user device via a first communication layer associated with a first network device, a request to add a second communication layer associated with a second network device; generate an instruction, based on receiving the request, to aggregate first data flow and the second data flow, to be provided via the first and second communication layers; and provide, to the second network device and based on generating the instruction, a response to indicate that the one or more devices are prepared to aggregate the first and second data flows. The response may include an instruction to direct the second network device to establish a simultaneous connection with the user device while the user device is connected to the first network device and to establish the connection with the user device via the second communication layer.

Communicating via multiple communication layers provided by multiple wireless network devices

A mobile device may manage the battery of the mobile device by controlling radio power usage. In one implementation, a mobile device may determine a target power usage associated with a radio of the mobile device, the radio implementing a radio link with a base station associated with a cellular wireless network. The mobile device may also determine an actual power usage associated with the radio of the mobile device and compare the actual power usage to the target power usage. The mobile device may communicate with the base station, and based on the comparison of the actual power usage to the target power usage, to cause the base station to reduce a bit rate associated with the radio link.

Mobile device radio power consumption and battery capacity management

A scheduler device may receive machine-to-machine (M2M) transmission information associated with a data transmission between a base station and a category 1 M2M device. The scheduler device may determine other transmission information associated with the base station. The other transmission information may include information associated with another data transmission between the base station and another device which is not a category 1 M2M device. The scheduler device may generate a resource assignment schedule associated with the category 1 M2M device and the other device. The resource assignment schedule may be based on the M2M transmission information and the other transmission information. The resource assignment schedule may identify a set of resources to be allocated to the category 1 M2M device during an increment of time. The scheduler device may provide the resource assignment schedule.

Category 1 M2M device data transmission via a long term evolution network

An approach for providing application-aware load balancing is provided. A load balancing platform at a base station receives application information specifying an application or type of service utilized by a mobile device and determines allocation of a plurality of carriers based on the received application information to provide load balancing across the plurality of carriers. The platform generates mapping information indicating a mapping of a plurality of applications to one or more of the plurality of carriers, wherein the application information includes the generated mapping information.
