The system includes one or more stimulators for stimulating one or more cranial nerves; one or more detectors configured for detecting a predetermined physiological state; and a control unit that controls nerve stimulation by the one or more stimulators so that it is synchronized with the at least one predetermined physiological state detected by the one or more detectors. The method includes the steps of detecting a predetermined physiological state and applying stimulation to one of the cranial nerves during the predetermined physiological state by one or more stimulators of a neuromodulation system.

Apparatus and methods are described for performing tear film structure measurement on a tear film of an eye of a subject. A broadband light source () is configured to generate broadband light. A spectrometer () is configured to measure a spectrum of light of the broadband light that is reflected from at least one spot on the tear film, the spot having a diameter of between 100 microns and 240 microns. A computer processor () is coupled to the spectrometer and configured to determine a characteristic of the tear film based upon the spectrum of light measured by the spectrometer. Apparatus and methods are described for calibrating an optical system that is used for measuring optical properties of a portion of a subjects body. During a calibration stage, a front surface of a calibration object () is illuminated, light reflected from a plurality of points on the calibration object () is detected, and intensities of the light reflected from the plurality of points on the calibration object () are measured. During a measurement stage, the portion of the subjects body is illuminated, and light reflected from the portion of the subjects body is detected. Measurements performed upon the light that was reflected from the portion of the subjects body are calibrated, using the measured intensities of the light reflected from the plurality of points on the calibration object (). Apparatus and methods for calibrating optical measurements

The invention provides a system for inhibition or treatment of an aberrant neurological event in a subject. The system comprises: one or more detectors; a controller; and one or more stimulators of the vagus nerve. The invention also provides a method for treating and preventing epileptic seizures and the onset or pre-onset of epileptic seizures. The method includes the steps of: collecting signals from each of one or more detector indicating the presence of a repetitive movement; analyzing signals received from the one or more detector to determine the intensity of the stimulation of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) required to control, moderate or prevent current and future repetitive movements; and when required, signaling one or more stimulator to stimulate the ABVN so that the repetitive motion ceases using the determined stimulation intensities.

Monitoring and treatment system for neurological disorders

Apparatus and methods are described, for detecting the surface topography of a portion of a curved surface of an object. A beam of light is directed toward the surface from a broad angle of incidence with respect to an optical axis of a camera. Light reflected from the surface is received by the camera, via a narrow-angle aperture. One or more darkened regions in the received light are detected, and the surface topography of portion of the surface is detected at least partially in response to the detected darkened regions. Apparatus and method for detecting surface topography

An external device is provided for use with an intraocular device configured to be implanted entirely in an eye of a subject. The external device includes a mount configured to be placed in front of the eye and a sensor coupled to the mount and configured to sense a level of ambient light. The external device additionally includes an external power source coupled to the mount and configured to (i) emit toward the eye non-visible light that is outside of 380-750 nm, and (ii) modulate the non-visible light based on the level of ambient light sensed by the sensor. Retinal prosthesis with an external power source

Apparatus and methods are described for performing structure measurement on a tear film of an eye of a subject. At least a portion of a surface of the tear film is illuminated using a broadband light source. A spectrum of light of the broadband light that is reflected from at least one point of the tear film is measured, using a spectrometer. Color information for a plurality of points of the tear film is obtained, by imaging a field of view of the tear film using a color camera. Using a processing unit, data from the color camera and data from the spectrometer that are indicative of characteristics of the tear film are received, and based upon a combination of the data received from the color camera and the data received from the spectrometer, an output is generated that is indicative of a structure of the tear film.

A system and method are described for performing tear film structure measurement. A broadband light source illuminates the tear film. A spectrometer measures respective spectra of reflected light from at least one point of the tear film. A color camera performs large field of view imaging of the tear film, so as to obtain color information for all points of the tear film imaged by the color camera. A processing unit calibrates the camera at the point measured by the spectrometer so that the color obtained by the camera at the point matches the color of the spectrometer at the same point. The processing unit determines, from the color of respective points of the calibrated camera, thicknesses of one or more layers of the tear film at the respective points. System and method for performing tear film structure measurement and evaporation rate measurements

Power monitoring circuitry is provided, comprising a capacitor configured to receive a current, so as to charge the capacitor and a switching device, connected to the capacitor. The switching device is configured to periodically discharge the capacitor in response to receipt of a clock signal from a circuit being monitored. The power monitoring circuitry also comprises a comparator, configured to perform a comparison of a voltage developed by the capacitor with a threshold voltage, and to output an indication of a change in power supplied to the circuit in response to the comparison. Weak power supply operation and control

Apparatus is provided, including an external device, including a mount, placed in front of an eye, and a laser which emits toward the eye radiation that is outside of 380-750 nm. The apparatus additionally includes an intraocular device which is implanted entirely in the eye, and includes an energy receiver, a plurality of stimulating electrodes, a plurality of photosensors, and driving circuitry coupled to the energy receiver and to the photosensors, and configured to drive the electrodes to apply currents to a retina of the eye in response to the signals from the photosensors. The photosensors are (a) generally insensitive to the energy from the laser, and (b) generally sensitive to visible light. Other applications are also described.

Apparatus is provided including an extraocular device, which includes an eyeglasses frame, which is placed in front of an eye of a subject, and a power source coupled to the eyeglasses frame and configured to emit a beam of light that is outside of 380-750 nm. A light-guiding element is coupled to the eyeglasses frame and at least one optical coupling-in element and at least one optical coupling-out element are optically coupled to the light-guiding element. The coupling-in element is positioned such that the beam of light is directed into the light-guiding element via the coupling-in element, and the coupling-in and coupling-out elements are positioned such that the beam diverges from a focal point located within 3 mm of the coupling-out element.
