Disclosed are systems and methods which utilize a relatively low cost first IF filter in a dual conversion tuner circuit. A preferred embodiment first IF filter is provided using a filter arrangement having a relatively high tolerance. Accordingly, preferred embodiment systems are designed such that they can accommodate the range of first IF frequencies that the large tolerance filter may provide. One aspect of this accommodation may include providing a means by which the system may detect the location of the passband of the IF filter in the spectrum. Another aspect of the accommodation for the range of first IF frequencies may include adjusting the first IF frequency utilized by the dual conversion tuner to match the passband of the IF filter. Additionally or alternatively, the passband of the first IF filter itself may be tuned, such as to provide a passband more near a desired IF frequency.

System and method for providing a dual conversion tuner having a first IF filter without fixed center frequency

A method for tuning a transconductor includes receiving a digital value. The method also includes determining a bit value for a selected bit of the digital value, and selecting a tuning range for a transconductor based on the bit value. The method further includes tuning the transconductor within the selected range based on any remaining bits in the digital value.

A method for storing a result of a tuning process includes generating a first characteristic signal using a signal generator. The method also includes generating a second characteristic signal using a master circuit, wherein the master circuit generates the second characteristic signal in response to a current signal. The method further includes determining an adjustment to the current signal based at least in part upon the first and second characteristic signals, and storing a digital value representing the adjustment.

Method and system for filter tuning using a digital trim value

Disclosed are systems and methods which provide signal processing circuitry utilizing a variable gain transimpedance amplifier configuration which is economical to implement and which provides for power efficient circuit implementation. Preferred embodiments provide a transimpedance amplifier having an output intercept that remains constant while a corresponding input intercept increases as gain is reduced. An analog optical receiver preferably implements an architecture in which the variable gain transimpedance amplifier is disposed as an input amplifier.
