Devices, systems, and methods for measuring the blood loss of a subject during a medical procedure. Blood and other fluids are received within a container, and a blood measurement device determines the hemoglobin concentration of the fluid within the container. The blood measurement device can also calculate the estimated blood loss of the subject based upon the determined hemoglobin concentration and the volume of the fluid within the container and the patient's hemoglobin.

Devices, systems, and methods for measuring blood loss

A system for measuring the blood loss comprises a measuring device that determines the hemoglobin concentration of fluid within a container utilizing a light source and a light detector. The container receives blood and other fluids from a patient during a medical procedure. Light from the light source is passed through the blood and other fluids in the container and is detected by the light detector. Based upon a magnitude of light detected, the hemoglobin concentration of the fluid in the container can be determined. A volume-measuring device determines the volume of blood and fluid in the container. Knowing the hemoglobin concentration and volume of fluid in the container, the volume of patient blood loss in the container can be determined. The blood loss measuring device in combination with infusion systems maintains a real-blood volume status so that proper infusion of blood, crystalloid and/or colloid solutions occurs.

Positionable tool light

A positionable lighting unit for tools may have an LED light source powered by a battery with a control switch, all mounted upon a circuit board encased within a translucent and flexible casing. The control switch may then be activated though the casing without breaching the same so that a more sterile unit may be presented in those situations requiring sterility. The tool light also may have an adhesive, so it may be temporarily positioned according to a user's liking on a given tool. Emphasis is given to medical devices where a small field of vision and little room for movement may be prohibitive of desired lighting placement, but the light may be used on any suitable tool in any suitable medical or non-medical situation.
