The safety shield is designed to be energy absorbing and is constructed of a non-rigid self-supporting energy-absorbing material and is adapted to engage across the side walls of a children's car seat. The lateral sides of the shield are provided with depending flanges which envelop the upstanding side walls of the car seat as well as with snap-lock protuberances for engaging the side walls at top and bottom. Also, the shield is provided with a face guard which extends from the shield and with padding which envelops the face guard and the inside of the shield. A gripping means is provided on the front of the shield to securely receive and grip a retaining belt, such as an automobile seat belt, to hold the seat and shield in place against lateral movement and pivoting.

Safety shield for use in a vehicle

The portable infant carrier is made with a mesh body of three-dimensional shape which is molded with the frame of the seat. The mesh body conforms to the shape of the individual infant and thus permits an infant to be carried in a supported, semi-fetal position. A handle is provided by which the carrier can be transported in a pendulum-like manner. The seat may also be pivoted into one of a plurality of reclining positions relative to the leg support.

Portable infant carrier

The bracket or brackets on the rear of the car seat in which the positioning bar is held are provided with slots of contoured shape to prevent accidental shifting of the seat from one position to another during a crash when the car seat is in a rear facing position. The shape of the slots is such that a corner is formed around which the bar would have to move in order to pass from a lowermost slot into the uppermost position.
