An aromatic polyphenol derivative which comprises at least one aromatic ring bearing at least two &#x2014;O&#x2014;Z groups in the meta position relative to one another, the two positions ortho to at least one of the &#x2014;O&#x2014;Z groups being unsubstituted, is used for the manufacture of a phenol-aldehyde resin for reinforcing a rubber composition. Each &#x2014;O&#x2014;Z group represents an &#x2014;O&#x2014;((C&#x2550;O)(R)) group with Rrepresenting a hydrocarbon-based radical or a substituted hydrocarbon-based radical.

Use of an esterified aromatic polyphenol derivative for the production of a phenol-aldehyde resin for reinforcement of a rubber composition

A rubber composition comprises at least one phenol-aldehyde resin based on: at least one aromatic polyphenol comprising at least one aromatic ring bearing at least two &#x2014;O&#x2014;H groups in the meta position relative to one another, the two positions ortho to at least one of the &#x2014;O&#x2014;H groups being unsubstituted; and at least one aldehyde of formula W: wherein each Arand Argroup represents, independently of one another, an optionally substituted aromatic ring; and wherein SP is a connecting group that connects at least the Arand Argroups to one another, SP separating the Arand Argroups by at least 2 covalent bonds.
