Provided is a bacterial strain which produces a family of mosquitocidal toxins,MT, on deposit with the American Type Culture Collection, PTA-6826, insecticidal compositions comprising the mosquitocidal toxin(s) produced byMT, a mosquitocidal toxin preparation prepared from spent culture medium, whole culture or cells or a mixture thereof, ofMT and method of insect control, especially mosquito control. Also provided are microbial compounds (same as mosquitocidal toxins) compositions comprising them and use in formulating therapeutic and other antimicrobial compositions, and methods of use for inhibiting microbial growth and for treating infection.

Mosquitocidal xenorhabdus, lipopeptide and methods

Methods of killing mosquito larvae and controlling an adult mosquito population by using &#x3b1;-mangostin, 3,6,8-yrihydroxy-2-methoxy-1,7-bis(3-methylbut-2-enyl)xanthen-9-one, or a salt, solute, hydrate or solvate thereof. Mosquito larvae are killed by contacting a lethal dose of &#x3b1;-mangostin with mosquito larvae. Adult mosquito populations are controlled by treating a mosquito larvae population with a lethal dose of &#x3b1;-mangostin.

Use of &#x3b1;-mangostin as a mosquito larvicide

The invention provides AeSCP-2 polypeptides, polynucleotides encoding AeSCP-2 polypeptides, and methods for producing such materials by recombinant techniques. Also provided are methods for utilizing AeSCP-2 polypeptides to screen for compounds exhibiting antagonist or agonist activity toward AeSCP-2 biological activity, in particular, cholesterol transport.
