The present invention relates to a polyethylene composition comprising a base resin having a density of from 952.0 kg/mto 960.0 kg/m, determined according to ISO 1183, wherein the polyethylene composition has a melt flow rate MFR(190° C., 21.16 kg), of from 1.0 to 7.5 g/10 min, determined according to ISO 1133, a complex viscosity at a frequency of 0.05 rad/s eta0.05 of from 750 kPa #s to 1900 kPa #s, determined according to ISO 6721-1 and ISO 6721-10, and a white spot rating of not more than 12.0, determined according to ISO 18553, a polyethylene composition obtainable by a multi-stage process, a process for producing said polyethylene composition, an article, such as a pipe or pipe fitting, comprising said polyethylene composition and the use of said polyethylene composition for the production of an article.

Multilayer element

A polymer composition comprising a base resin is disclosed herein. The base resin includes a very high molecular weight polyethylene component, a low molecular weight polyethylene component having a weight average molecular weight lower than a weight average molecular weight of the very high molecular weight component and a high molecular weight component having a weight average molecular weight higher than the weight average molecular weight of the low molecular weight component, but lower than the weight average molecular weight of the very high molecular weight component. The composition has a complex viscosity at 0.05 rad/s Etaof equal to or more than 800 kPa&#xb7;s, a viscosity at a shear stress of 747 Pa (eta747) of equal to or less than 34000 kPas and a melt flow rate MFR5 of equal to or less than 0.17 g/10 min.

The present application relates to a process for producing a multimodal polyethylene composition comprising the steps of polymerizing a polyethylene fraction (A-1) having a weight average molecular weight Mw of equal to or more than 500 kg/mol to equal to or less than 10,000 kg/mol and a density of equal to or more than 915 kg/mto equal to or less than 960 kg/min one reaction step and polymerizing a polyethylene fraction (A-2) having a lower weight average molecular weight Mw as polyethylene fraction (A-1) and a density of equal to or more than 910 kg/mto equal to or less than 975 kg/min a second reaction step of a sequential multistage process wherein one of said polyethylene fractions is polymerized in the presence of the other of said polyethylene fractions to form a first polyethylene resin (A) having a weight average molecular weight Mw of equal to or more than 150 kg/mol to equal to or less than 1,500 kg/mol, and a density of equal to or more than 910 kg/mto equal to or less than 975 kg/m, wherein the weight average molecular weight Mw of the first polyethylene resin (A) is lower than the weight average molecular weight Mw of the polyethylene fraction (A-1), blending the first polyethylene resin (A) with a second polyethylene resin (B) having a weight average molecular weight Mw of equal to or more than 50 kg/mol to less than 500 kg/mol, and a density of equal to or more than 910 kg/mto equal to or less than 970 kg/mto form said multimodal polyethylene composition, wherein the multimodal polyethylene composition a melt flow rate MFR(190&#xb0; C., 5 kg) of 0.01 to 10 g/10 min and a density of equal to or more than 910 kg/mto equal to or less than 970 kg/ma polyethylene composition obtainable by said process and the polyethylene resin of said first polymerization step.
