The disclosure provides a method and system for requesting access to resources for uplink communications in unlicensed spectrum. In particular, a user equipment (UE) may detect one or more of a first type of data or a second type of data to be transmitted to a base station (BS). The UE may then determine if a first type of physical random access channel (PRACH) resource is available for transmitting one or more of the first type of data or the second type of data to the BS. If the first type of PRACH resource is available, then the UE may transmit one or more of the first type of data or the second type of data using the first type of PRACH resource. If the first type of PRACH resource is not available, then the UE may transmit the second type of data using a second type of PRACH resource.

Contention-based random access in unlicensed spectrum

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium at a transmitting network device or a target network device in a listen-before-talk (LBT) session that employ a spatial LBT procedure is disclosed. The spatial LBT procedure takes into account multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration information in measuring an effective interference. Accordingly, the spatial LBT procedure enables the transmitting network device or the target network device to more accurately measure an interference and make a more accurate decision on whether a channel is clear, and thus improves the system-wide performance. Also, the spatial LBT procedure allows the transmitting network device or the target/receiving network device to adaptively adjust the LBT power detection threshold when the MIMO configuration is not available. This also enables the network devices to more accurately measure interference and make a more accurate decision on whether the channel is clear, especially when advanced MIMO technologies are deployed in 5G or beyond.

Systems and methods for a spatial listen-before-talk protocol

Preceded contention reservation signals for synchronous new radio (NR) shared spectrum (NR-SS) networks are disclosed. A transmitter that uses precoded contention reservation signals may be configured either to skip or use the training phase for determining rank parameters. The transmitter participates in contention resolution with its receiver by transmitting the precoded contention reservation signals precoded with tentative rank parameters. After contention interval, receiver sends feedback to the transmitter identifying proposed rank parameters based on the strongest precoded contention signals of any neighboring nodes that also won access to the channel. When configured to skip the training phase, the transmitter sets the rank parameters according to the proposed rank parameters. Otherwise, the transmitter participates in the training phase with other winning nodes transmitting signals identifying proposed rank parameters. The receiver then feeds back refined rank parameters to the transmitter based on each of the proposed rank parameters of the training phase.

Pre-coded RTS/CTS for synchronous NR-SS

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A method may include obtaining a first channel quality indicator (CQI) backoff value based on a first set of acknowledgment messages associated with a first subframe of a first interval; setting a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) of a first subframe of a second interval using the first CQI backoff value; obtaining a second CQI backoff value based on a second set of acknowledgment messages associated with a second subframe of the first interval; and setting a MCS of the second subframe of the second interval using the second CQI backoff value.

Rate control adaptation

Detection and reporting techniques for collisions between transmitters of two different radio access technologies (RATs) transmitting in a shared radio frequency spectrum band is described. The collision may occur following a listen-before-talk procedure but prior to transmission of data, and may not affect the reception of the transmitted data. Collisions may be detected using for example, energy sensing, preamble or ready-to-send (RTS) signal detection, or unsuccessful decoding of all or part of a channel reservation signal. A transmitting device may determine a collision has occurred by detecting an energy level during a preamble transmission is greater than a threshold level or by detecting that an energy level during a transmission gap of a time-domain energy pattern is above a threshold level. A receiving device, such as a user equipment (UE), that detects the collision may report the collision to the transmitter.

Collision detection in a shared radio frequency spectrum band

Techniques for adjusting a contention window (CW) for transmissions in a shared radio frequency spectrum band may include identifying a number of nodes attempting to transmit using a channel of a shared radio frequency spectrum band and determining a target CW based on the number of nodes attempting to transmit. A new CW value may then be determined based on a prior CW value and the target CW value, and a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure (e.g., a clear channel assessment (CCA)) to access the channel of the shared radio frequency spectrum band may be performed to access the channel.

Techniques for contention window adjustment for transmissions in a shared radio frequency spectrum band

The disclosure provides for a method of interference detection using adaptive energy detection in unlicensed spectrum. The method can include a first modem operating according to a first radio access technology (RAT) receiving a message from a network entity operating according to the first RAT. The first modem sends a detected energy level value to a second modem that is using a second RAT, where the detected energy level value is based at least on the measured energy level of the received message. The second modem adjusts an energy detection threshold based on the detected energy level value received from the first modem. In an aspect, the first modem receives messages from a plurality of network entities operating according to the first RAT, where the detected energy level value is determined based on measured energy levels of the plurality of received messages.
