Fuel reformer

A hydrogen-containing gas suitable for use in a fuel cell, especially in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell, is produced from a digestion gas (b) yielded in methane fermentation of organic matter (a), and is then supplied to the fuel cell to generate electricity. A fuel cell power generation method comprises a methane fermentation step (A) for subjecting organic matter to methane fermentation, a pretreatment step (B) for pretreating digestion gas yielded in the methane fermentation step, a hydrogen production step (C) for producing hydrogen-containing gas (c) from the gas which has been pretreated in the pretreatment step, and a fuel cell power generation step (D) for supplying the hydrogen-containing gas produced in the hydrogen production step to a fuel cell to generate electricity. The pretreatment step comprises an alkaline absorption step (B1) for absorbing carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide contained in the digestion gas yielded in the methane fermentation step into an alkaline absorbent solution.

Fuel cell power generation method and system

A hydrothermal electrolytic apparatus comprises a reaction cell for electrolyzing influent at high temperature and high pressure, wherein an overall surface area of a pair of electrodes located in the reaction cell per 1 mof the volume of the influent is 0.05 mor more. The hydrothermal electrolytic apparatus has two or more tubular reaction cells each having a metal inner wall serving as a cathode, and an anode is provided in each of the reaction cells. A hydrothermal electrolytic process comprises incorporating conductive particles into an influent to substantially increase a surface area of electrodes during hydrothermal electrolysis.

Apparatus and method for hydrothermal electrolysis

An object of the present invention is to provide a process and an apparatus for treating a gas containing reducing substances to efficiently degrade and remove the reducing substances. As a means to achieve this object, the present invention provides a process for treating a gas containing reducing substances by hydrothermal electrolysis, comprising supplying a gas containing reducing substances into a reactor charged with an aqueous medium containing a halide ion under application of a direct current at a temperature of 100&deg; C. or more but the critical temperature of said aqueous medium or less and at a pressure that allows said aqueous medium to be kept in the liquid phase.

A method and apparatus for simultaneously performing hydrothermal reaction and electrolysis in the presence of a strongly acidic ion such as halide ions. A reactor internally has a pair of electrodes. An oxidizing agent such as an oxygen gas may be added. Even low-molecular weight compounds such as acetic acid and ammonia can be readily decomposed.

Hydrothermal electrolysis method and apparatus

Wastewater containing a surfactant and an oil content that has been emulsified by the action of the surfactant can be freed of the oil content by a method including feeding the wastewater into the anode compartment, for electrolysis, of a diaphragm electrolyzer having an anode and a cathode provided in the anode compartment and a cathode compartment, respectively, which are spaced apart by a porous diaphragm and which are supplied with a dc voltage between the anode and the cathode, passing part of the electrolyzed wastewater through the diaphragm so that it enters the cathode compartment, discharging the influent from the cathode compartment, discharging the remainder of the electrolyzed wastewater from the anode compartment and introducing the same into the intermediate portion of a gas-liquid separator, withdrawing part of the influent from the top of the gas-liquid separator and introducing the same into a layer packed with an adhering material, where it is brought into contact with the adhering material, directing the effluent to an oil-water separation step for accomplishing the intended oil-water separation, and withdrawing the remainder from the bottom of the gas-liquid separator and returning the same to mix with the feed to the electrolysis step. Preferably, the polarities of the two electrodes are changed alternately at specified time intervals during the step of diaphragm electrolysis such that the anode compartment is switched to the cathode compartment and vice versa.

Method and apparatus for separating oil from water in wastewater

A method for preventing scale from precipitating and an apparatus for producing deionized water are disclosed. The acidic water produced by electrolysis in the electrolysis unit (30) is introduced into a concentrating compartment (19) in the continuous deionization unit (10). The pH of the concentrated water in the concentrating compartment decreases, thereby preventing scale from precipitating.
