A composition and method are disclosed for forming lignin-containing floccules from dissolved lignin, lignin nanoparticles, lignin colloids, or lignin-containing cellulose nanofibers. The floccules may be used to clean oil-contaminated materials such as oil-contaminated plastics or oil-contaminated water. The polymers and oil may then be recovered for further use, without requiring organic solvents.

The present invention relates to an electrochemical element and a method for producing same, the electrochemical element comprising: electrodes comprising a composite of active material and conductive material having a nanofiber structure; and a cellulose nanofiber separator combined with the electrodes. The electrochemical element according to the present invention obviates the need for separate binder and electrode current collector, has a stable interfacial surface due to the physical union of the separator and electrode, can assure superb mechanical and physical properties, and can maintain stable battery performance even against deformations due to a variety of external impact.

Bentonite (or other clay) water-based drilling fluids incorporating functionalized cellulose nanocrystals are disclosed. Cellulose nanocrystals are modified with tailored surface charges or tailored levels of salt-tolerant polymer grafting, and combined with bentonite (or other clay) nanoplatelets in an aqueous suspension. Thermal performance of drilling fluids can also be enhanced by surface grafting of thermally functional polymers onto cellulose nanocrystals.

The invention discloses a metal nanoparticles/nanocellulose composites-based non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensor, comprising a three-electrode system composed of a working electrode, a counter electrode, and a reference electrode. The surface of the working electrode is coated with a metal nanoparticles/nanocellulose composites. The surface of the nanocellulose is modified with a strong cationic conducting polymer. The invention promotes the sensitivity and selectivity of glucose sensing with the linear range of 4 &#x3bc;M-15 mM and the detection limit of 1.4 &#x3bc;M. Therefore, the sensor possesses high sensitivity, high response speed, stable performance and high anti-interference ability. The preparation method of the metal nanoparticles/nanocellulose composites-based non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensor is simple and the cost is low. And enzyme is introduced into the preparation process.
