Systems and methods for Wi-Fi network optimization include receiving inputs related to signal strength and interference during operation of the Wi-Fi network; performing an optimization to determine operational parameters of one or more access points in the Wi-Fi network, wherein the optimization is based on the inputs and is configured to address an objective associated with the Wi-Fi network; and providing outputs comprising the operational parameters for configuration of the Wi-Fi network, based on the optimization, wherein the operational parameters include channel and bandwidth selection, and topology of the one or more access points.

Optimization of distributed Wi-Fi networks

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for switching between communication channels in order to reduce latency of data transmissions. For instance, an electronic device may establish a first network connection with a network device and second network connection(s) with other electronic device(s). The electronic device may then send data received from the network device to the other electronic device(s). In some circumstances, the electronic device may establish a new network connection with the network device, such as on a different communication channel and/or use a different network band. In such circumstances, the electronic device may use one or more techniques to establish new network connections(s) with the other electronic device(s) in order to reduce the latency it takes to send the data received from the network device to the other electronic device(s).

Techniques for switching communication channels

Techniques for performing high-precision presence detection by establishing and monitoring peer-to-peer communication links between user devices residing in a same physical environment. A user device that resides in the environment may establish communication links with multiple other user devices residing in the environment. The user device may monitor the channel properties for those communication links to detect fluctuations in the channel properties caused by a user moving through a signal of the communication links. In examples where the user device detects fluctuations in channel properties for multiple communication links, the user device may determine that the user had moved though signals of the communication links. The user device may determine that, because the user moved through signals of multiple communication links, the user may be in close proximity to the user device, such as in the same room. Thus, the user device monitors multiple communication links to perform presence-detection techniques.

Proximity detection using device-to-device communication links

Technologies directed to Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) channel assessment mechanisms are described. A processing device of a first wireless device identifies a channel identifier corresponding to a first operating channel being used by a first radio of the first wireless device to communicate with a first access point (AP) enabled on a radio of a second wireless device. The processing device identifies multiple devices in proximity to the first wireless device using a second radio. The processing device determines an airtime utilization percentage value for each operating channel of the second radio and determines a number of radar events for each DFS channel. The processing device determines a second channel identifier having a fewest number of radar events and selects a second operating channel for a second AP on the second radio, the second channel corresponding to the second operating channel.

Dynamic frequency selection channel assessment mechanism

A distributed Wi-Fi system includes a first Wi-Fi access point communicatively coupled to a modem/router for connectivity to the Internet and to a cloud controller via the Internet; and at least one additional Wi-Fi access point with wireless backhaul connections to the modem/router via the first Wi-Fi access point, wherein the first Wi-Fi access point and the at least one additional access point cooperatively form a single Wi-Fi network; wherein the cloud controller is configured to receive inputs related to operation of the single Wi-Fi network, perform an optimization based on the inputs with an objective function, and provide operational parameters for the single Wi-Fi network based on the optimization.

Techniques for harmonizing wireless communications performed by a computing device which communicates using varying wireless communication standards are described herein. For instance, a computing device may include multiple chipsets with associated antennas that are configured to perform wireless communications using separate wireless standards which operate at overlapping frequencies. To avoid performance degradation experienced in simultaneous use cases with communications operating at overlapping frequencies, the multiple chipsets may be configured with logic to determine which communications are prioritized when multiple chipsets attempt to communicate simultaneously. The multiple chipsets may be communicatively coupled to coordinate their communications by prioritizing certain types of communications over other types of communications to avoid simultaneous communications in overlapping frequencies. In this way, multiple chipsets that communicate using different standards at overlapping frequencies may avoid performance issues experienced in simultaneous use cases, while performing the communications which are of a highest priority level.

Packet arbitration in overlapping frequencies

Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for wireless communications. More particularly, an access point (AP) identifies a plurality of multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) groups associated with a wireless station (STA). The AP determines a communication metric associated with each of the plurality of MU-MIMO groups. The communication metric provides an indication of the compatibility of the STAs in the MU-MIMO group. The AP prioritizes at least one of the plurality of MU-MIMO groups based at least in part on the communication metric associated with the prioritized MU-MIMO group. The AP creates a preferred group list and/or a blacklisted group list and included the prioritized MU-MIMO group in the appropriate group list.

Smart grouping for multi-user multiple-input/multiple-output stations

Systems and methods for optimization of access points in a Wi-Fi system by a cloud controller include receiving inputs related to operation of the Wi-Fi system; performing an optimization based on the inputs to maximize an objective function which maximizes excess capacity for a load ratio considering a load desired by each Wi-Fi client device; and providing outputs comprising operational parameters for the Wi-Fi system based on the optimization. The optimization chooses which access point each Wi-Fi client device connects to in the Wi-Fi system.

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed that may allow a wireless device to dynamically select a bandwidth for MU-MIMO communications. A wireless device may transmit, on each of a plurality of wireless channels, a clear-to-send-to-self (CTS2S) frame that reserves medium access on a number of wireless channels and/or confirms the continued availability of the wireless channels. The bandwidth for a subsequent sounding operation may be based on the bandwidth used to transmit the CTS2S frames. Thereafter, the wireless device may transmit one or more MU-MIMO data frames to a number of other wireless devices using the selected bandwidth.

Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. In one aspect, a method of wireless communication includes determining a transmit time metric associated with each transmission group of a number of transmission groups based at least in part on an amount of data in a transmit queue and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) data rate for at least one wireless communication device in the transmission group. The method also includes scheduling a transmission to a first transmission group of the number of transmission groups based at least in part on the transmit time metric for the first transmission group.
