The present invention relates to a composition comprising a) an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles comprising structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer or a salt thereof; and b) an aminosilane. The composition is effective for improving block resistance in such pigmented coating formulations.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a) polymer particles having a z-average particle size in the range of from 50 nm to 500 nm; b) anion exchange resin particles having a Dmedian particle size in the range of from 0.1 μm to 50 μm; and c) polymeric organic microspheres having a Dmedian particle size in the range of from 1 μm to 20 μm, wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of polymer particles to microspheres is in the range of from 0.5:1 to 20:1. The composition of the present invention is useful for paint compositions that form matte finishes with an excellent balance of stain blocking and stain removal properties.

The present invention relates to a pigmented matte coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a) phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles; b) TiOparticles; c) polymeric organic microspheres; and d) a rheology modifier. The composition of the present invention gives matte finish coatings having the stain and scrub resistant attributes similar to coatings formed from semi-gloss paint compositions.

The present invention is related to a coating composition comprising a) an aqueous dispersion of acrylic or styrene-acrylic polymer particles functionalized with structural units of a monomer with keto functionality and structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer; b) a dispersant comprising structural units of a carboxylic acid monomer and a monomer with keto functionality; and c) a dihydrazide crosslinking agent. The present invention relates to opaque polymers functionalized with phosphorus acid groups, composites of TiOparticles and the opaque polymers, and methods for their preparation. The composites are useful in coatings formulations and have been shown to exhibit improved hiding benefits in coated substrates over compositions containing non-functionalized opaque polymer and TiO.

The present disclosure includes a waterborne polyolefin based coating layer that has improved features as compared to epoxy coatings. The present invention relates to a latex composition comprising a) an opaque polymer having a pigment volume concentration of from 18 to 28; b) fully or partially polymer encapsulated TiOparticles having a pigment volume concentration of from 8 to 18; c) an extender having a pigment volume concentration of from 0 to 10; d) a binder; e) a thickener; and f) water. Notwithstanding the surprisingly high pigment volume concentration of opaque polymer, the composition&#x2014;upon application to a substrate&#x2014;gives a coating with a gloss or semi-gloss finish, excellent hiding, and acceptable burnish resistance.

The present invention relates to a process comprising the steps of a) contacting an aqueous dispersion of a TiOslurry containing adsorbing dispersant with an adsorbing latex to form a mixture, wherein the pH of the mixture of the TiOslurry and adsorbing latex are sufficiently high to inhibit interaction between the TiOand the adsorbing dispersant; then b) lowering the pH of the mixture of step a) sufficiently to promote interaction between the TiOand the adsorbing latex, thereby forming a composite; wherein the adsorbing latex comprises structural units of itaconic acid or a salt thereof. The process of the present invention provides for improved hiding and reduced grit for coatings compositions.
