A method for manufacturing a Z-directed component for insertion into a mounting hole in a printed circuit board according to one example embodiment includes simultaneously extruding a plurality of materials according to the structure of the Z-directed component to form an extruded object and forming the Z-directed component from the extruded object. In one embodiment, the extruded object is divided into individual Z-directed components. In one embodiment, the timing of extrusion between predetermined sections of one of the materials is varied in order to stagger the sections in the extruded object.

A method for forming a Z-directed component for insertion into a mounting hole in a printed circuit board according to one example includes filling a first cavity having a tapered surface with a body material. A first layer of a constraining material is provided on top of the first cavity and has a second cavity having a width that is smaller than the first cavity. The second cavity is filled with the body material. Successive layers of the constraining material are provided on top of the first layer of the constraining material. Cavities of the successive layers of the constraining material are selectively filled with at least the body material to form layers of the main body portion of the Z-directed component. The constraining material is dissipated to release the Z-directed component from the constraining material and the Z-directed component is fired.

The polymer coating formulation includes a novolac epoxy resin, a bisphenol-A/epichlorhydrin epoxy resin, a photoacid generator, an adhesion promoter, and a mixture of acetophenone, cyclohexanone and butyrolactone organic solvents. The integrated circuit or micro-electro-mechanical system chip sample is encapsulated by the polymer coating formulation, wherein the chip sample is then ready for ion beam cross-section polishing. A cross-section sample of integrated circuit or micro-electro-mechanical system chip is prepared by polishing the obtained polymer encapsulated integrated circuit or micro-electro-mechanical system chip with ion beam cross-section polisher. The disclosed method allows the cross-section sample to be obtained at a reduced polishing time. Moreover, a good quality and larger cross-sectional area of the sample is obtained, thus allowing for accurate inspection or analysis of the integrated circuit or micro-electro-mechanical system chip.

Techniques and technologies for tracking a face with a plurality of cameras wherein a geometry between the cameras is initially unknown. One disclosed method includes detecting a head with two of the cameras and registering a head model with the image of the head (as detected by one of the cameras). The method also includes back projecting the other detected face image to the head model and determining a head pose from the back-projected head image. Furthermore, the determined geometry is used to track the face with at least one of the cameras.
