A communication device includes a receiver that is capable of canceling in -channel interference. The receiver includes an antenna for receiving a wireless signal comprising in-channel components and an out-of-channel component, wherein the in-channel components comprise a desired component and an in-channel interference component. A first filter of the receiver filters the wireless signal by blocking at least a portion of the out-of-channel component to produce a first signal comprising the in -channel components, and at least a second filter of the receiver filters the wireless signal by blocking at least a portion of the in-channel components to produce a second signal comprising the out-of-channel component. An in-channel interference estimator of the receiver generates an in-channel interference estimation signal based on the second signal. And a combiner of the filter combines the first signal and the second signal to at least partially cancel the in-channel interference component of the first signal.

Method and apparatus for in-channel interference cancellation

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for embedding a supplementary data channel in LTE-based communication systems. One embodiment takes the form of a process that includes obtaining a primary data signal. The primary data signal includes a given symbol, and the given symbol includes primary payload data prepended with a given cyclic prefix. The process also includes obtaining supplementary payload data. The process also includes generating a modified primary data signal at least in part by replacing an initial portion of the given cyclic prefix with a subset of the supplementary payload data. The process also includes outputting the generated modified primary data signal for transmission via an air interface.

Methods and systems for embedding supplementary data channel in LTE-based communication systems

A communication device includes a receiver that is capable of canceling in-channel interference. The receiver includes an antenna for receiving a wireless signal comprising in-channel components and an out-of-channel component, wherein the in-channel components comprise a desired component and an in-channel interference component. A first filter of the receiver filters the wireless signal by blocking at least a portion of the out-of-channel component to produce a first signal comprising the in-channel components, and at least a second filter of the receiver filters the wireless signal by blocking at least a portion of the in-channel components to produce a second signal comprising the out-of-channel component. An in-channel interference estimator of the receiver generates an in-channel interference estimation signal based on the second signal. And a combiner of the filter combines the first signal and the second signal to at least partially cancel the in-channel interference component of the first signal.

A wireless communication device is provided that is capable of suppressing out-of-channel emissions. The wireless communication device includes an upsampled broadband multicarrier signal generator and multiple upsampled sidelobe signal generators. The upsampled broadband multicarrier signal generator receives a symbol stream and, based on the symbol stream, generates a broadband multicarrier signal comprising an in-channel signal and a first multiple out-of-channel sidelobes. Each upsampled sidelobe signal generator of the multiple upsampled sidelobe signal generators receives at least a portion of the symbol stream and, based on at least a portion of the symbol stream, generates an out-of-channel sidelobes to produce a second multiple out-of-channel sidelobes. The wireless communication device further includes a combiner that combines the broadband multicarrier signal and the second multiple out-of-channel sidelobes to at least partially suppress first multiple out-of-channel sidelobes of the broadband multicarrier signal.

Method and apparatus for out-of-channel emission suppression

A communication device and method of allocating spectrum resources in a communication system to protect data to be transmitted are disclosed. The communication channel resource is divided temporally to form regions. Data to be transmitted is separated into data portions. Each data portion is able to be transmitted over one of the regions. The data portions are prioritized based on the importance of the data portion. The regions are ranked based on the transmission reliability thereon. The prioritized data portions are mapped to the ranked regions such that more important data portions are mapped to more reliable regions and less important data portions are mapped to less reliable regions. The prioritized data is output temporally in order of importance to enable the mapping of the prioritized data.

Method of signal to time-spectrum channel resource mapping for wireless communication system

A method, wireless controller, and information processing system are provided to dynamically allocate spectrum sensing resources. A first input () including available sensing session time for performing spectrum sensing with respect to one or more primary systems () is received. A second input () including a set of communication channels to be monitored in the spectrum sensing session is received. A third input () including detection constraints associated with a plurality of available sensing nodes () in a secondary network () for performing the spectrum sensing is received. Spectrum sensing resources are dynamically allocated () among a set of the plurality of available sensing nodes () based on the first (), second (), and third inputs ().

Dynamic allocation of spectrum sensing resources in cognitive radio networks

A method, wireless device, and information processing system dynamically update spectrum sensing groups in a wireless communication system. A set of wireless devices () currently allocated to a spectrum sensing group is identified. Each wireless device () in the set performs spectrum sensing on one or more wireless communication channels. Spectrum sensing performance data () is analyzed for each such wireless device () in the set. The spectrum sensing performance data () indicates wireless communication performance of a wireless device () associated with the spectrum sensing performance data with respect to detecting a transmitted signal on the one or more communication channels. Wireless device membership of the set of wireless devices () allocated to the spectrum sensing group is dynamically adjusted based on the analysis.

Targeted group scaling for enhanced distributed spectrum sensing

A cognitive radio wireless device () dynamically manages signal detection in a cognitive radio system (). Spectrum sensing is performed for a first sensing frame on at least one communication channel. At least one observed signal is received () on the at least one communication channel. A detection decision () is performed to determine if the observed signal is noise or an active signal associated with an active user. The detection decision () is performed by comparing observed signal energy estimation with a current detection threshold. The current detection threshold can be an arbitrarily defined threshold or a detection threshold based on a previous detection decision for a sensing frame immediately prior to the first sensing frame.

A method and apparatus for determining a node's proper duty cycle is provided herein. All nodes () within a network () will interactively switch duty-cycles based on a number of hops a device is from a personal area network coordinator PNC. Changing duty cycles based on a number of hops from a PNC assures that spatial patterns of duty-cycles form in a network to maximize data throughput and minimize network wide power consumptions.

Method and apparatus for a node to determine a proper duty cycle within an ad-hoc network

An ad-hoc communication system is established where each node within the system may have multiple children nodes and parent nodes. An address scheme is proposed where each node may comprise more than one address, each address being based upon one of the parent's address. Method and apparatus for operating a node in a beacon based ad hoc network

A location technique is utilized where channel-model parameters are originally estimated prior to location taking place. Location then takes place using a first set of known-located nodes, and the channel-model parameters are updated based on the distances resulting from the location estimate. Once the channel-model parameters have been updated, location again takes place using a second set of known-located nodes, node distances are calculated based on the produced locations and the channel-model parameters are again updated. This process continues until no significant change is observed between the previous and the newly estimated location, or until a maximum number of iterations is reached.

In this protocol, one or more mediation devices (MDs) facilitate data processing capabilities in the network, whether in a dedicated MD or distributed MD network environment. Expanded functionality of the MD includes control information messaging and service differentiation for the purpose of improving QoS of the network.
