A cable includes a first twisted pair of insulated conductors having a first lay length and a second twisted pair of insulated conductors having a second lay length, where the second lay length is longer than the first lay length. At least one jacket covers the pairs. An additive is added to the insulation of the conductors of the second twisted pair so that the dielectric constant of the insulation of the conductors of the second twisted pair is raised relative to the dielectric constant of the insulation of the conductors of the first twisted pair resulting in a reduced skew between the first and second twisted pairs.

FEP modification to reduce skew in data communications cables

A communications cable includes a jacket and a plurality of twisted pairs, each twisted pair having two insulated conductors twisted around one another. A cross-filler is arranged between the twisted pairs, where the cross filler is constructed of a PVC formulation using a halogenated plasticizer as the primary plasticizer and having a dissipation factor below 0.01 at frequencies between 100 MHz to 500 MHz.

The present arrangement provides a communication cable having a plurality of twisted pair communication elements, a jacket surrounding the twisted pairs and a shield element disposed between the pairs and the jacket. The shield element is constructed as a tape substrate with a plurality of foil shielding elements disposed thereon, the foil shielding elements being formed in the shape of triangles and arranged on the substrate with at least a first foil shield element having a base of its triangle shape disposed substantially parallel to a longitudinal edge of the tape substrate. Each subsequent triangle is disposed on the tape substrate at a distance apart from the first triangle foil shielding element with a base of its triangle shape disposed substantially parallel to an opposite longitudinal edge of the tape substrate.

A cable is provided containing one or more polymeric elements for reduction of crosstalk. The cable includes a plurality of unshielded twisted pairs, each of which is an insulated conductor pair twisted around one another, each having a different lay length. A jacket encloses the plurality of unshielded twisted pairs, where an unshielded twisted pair, has the longest lay length among the plurality of unshielded twisted pairs is positioned within the center of the jacket such that an axis of the twisted pairs that has the longest lay length substantially coincides with the central longitudinal axis of the cable. A plurality of bumper elements are disposed within the jacket in the interstices between said plurality of unshielded twisted pairs, where the bumper elements are profiled polymer structures.

A cable is provided with a first twisted pair of insulated conductors having a first lay length and a first insulation resulting in a first signal propagation rate and a second twisted pair of insulated conductors having a second lay length and a second insulation resulting in a second signal propagation rate. The second signal propagation rate is faster than the first signal propagation rate resulting a first amount of signal skew between signals travelling through the first twisted pair and the second twisted pair. A jacket covers the pairs. Titanium dioxide is added to the insulation of the conductors of the second twisted pair so that the dielectric constant of the insulation of the conductors of the second twisted pair is raised, lowering the second signal propagation rate, resulting in a second amount of signal skew which is less than the first amount of signal skew.
