An optical element may include two or more zones to perform functions in a head-mounted display (HMD) device. An optical component may include a first optical zone characterized by a first sag profile to correct a refractive error of an eye of a user and a second optical zone characterized by a second sag profile to redirect a path of an illumination light beam. A transition zone located between the first optical zone and the second optical zone may provide a smooth transition between the first optical zone and the second optical zone.

Zonal lenses for a head-mounted display (HMD) device

Embodiments of the disclosure are directed to index-gradient antireflective coatings that include a differential concentration of nanovoids versus thickness of the coating. In one embodiment, an index-gradient antireflective coating may have an index of refraction that varies from a first value to that of a second material. In another embodiment, the substrate may be optically transparent, and made of, for example, polymer, glass, or ceramics. The index-gradient antireflective coating can be fabricated using a non-uniform spin-coating process, by successive thermal evaporation, or by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. In another embodiment, the spin-coating process can include multiple steps that include different concentrations of monomers to solvent, different spin-speeds, or different annealing times/temperatures. Similarly, the thermal evaporation can include multiple steps that include different concentrations of monomers, initiators, solvents, and associated processing parameters. Various other methods, systems, apparatuses, and materials are also disclosed.

The disclosure includes near-eye optical elements configured to suppress stray infrared light. Infrared light sources illuminate an eyebox area. A combiner layer may receive reflected infrared light and direct the reflected infrared light to a camera.

Methods and apparatuses for implementing customized anomaly detection. A time-series data including a plurality of data points is obtained. Anomaly detection is performed to the time-series data with an anomaly detection model. A feedback associated with an anomaly detection result of at least one data point in the time-series data is received. The anomaly detection model is updated based at least on the feedback through reinforcement learning.

The present disclosure provides methods and apparatuses for inserting digital contents into a multi-view video. The multi-view video may comprise a plurality of views. At least one target region in the plurality of views may be identified. At least one digital content to be inserted may be determined. Outcoupling elements are disposed with a transparent layer. A transparent waveguide structure receives non-visible light and delivers the non-visible light to the outcoupling elements. The outcoupling elements outcouple the non-visible light as non-visible illumination light.

An eye tracking system with in-optical-assembly plane illumination is described. Side-emitting light emitting diodes (LEDs) aligned with a plane of an optical assembly of a near-eye display device are used to illuminate the eye of a user and generate glints that can be detected by an eye tracking camera. When a corrective optical lens or similar element is included in the optical assembly that may distort illumination beams from the light emitting diodes (LEDs), the distortion is mitigated by using in-package or externally modified LEDs that provide angled beams. In addition to in-package level mitigations such as reflectors or labels, edge portions of the distorting optical elements may be shaped or complemented with refractive elements to redirect the beams toward the eye.

A secure network connection between the virtualized computing service provider and the remote computing environment is established. The control plane management functions cause instantiation of the virtual machines of the virtual network at the remote computing environment. Using the control plane management functions executing at the virtualized computing service provider, operation of the virtual machines of the virtual network is managed. Using the data plane management functions executing at the remote computing environment, operation of data plane operations at the virtual machines executing at the remote computing environment is allowed.

A device includes a light source, a waveguide layer, and a light director layer. The light source emits illumination light. The waveguide layer includes a cladding layer and an optical waveguide. The cladding layer provides a top planar surface of the waveguide layer and the optical waveguide is immersed in the cladding layer and includes a light input coupler. The light director layer includes a bottom planar surface that is disposed on the top planar surface of the waveguide layer. The light director layer also includes a light director that receives and directs the illumination light to the light input coupler as shaped light. The light director is configured to tilt the illumination light to give the shaped light a tilt angle with respect to the light input coupler.

Techniques disclosed herein relate generally to eye-tracking in near-eye display systems. One example of an eye illuminator for eye-tracking includes a substrate transparent to visible light, an array of light sources immersed in the substrate and configured to emit infrared light, and a holographic optical element conformally coupled to a surface of the substrate and encapsulated by an encapsulation layer. The holographic optical element is configured to transmit the visible light and diffract the infrared light emitted by the array of light sources to the eye of a user for eye-tracking.

An example device may include a light source, an optical element, and, optionally, an encapsulant layer. A light beam generated by the light source may be received by the optical element and redirected towards an illumination target, such as an eye of a user. The optical element may include a material, for example, with a refractive index of at least approximately 2 at a wavelength of the light beam. The light source may be a semiconductor light source, such as a light-emitting diode or a laser. The optical element may be supported by an emissive surface of the light source. Refraction at an exit surface of the optical element, and/or within a metamaterial layer, may advantageously modify the beam properties, for example, in relation to illuminating a target. In some examples, the light source and optical element may be integrated into a monolithic light source module.

An optical element includes a transparent layer, outcoupling elements, and a waveguide structure. The outcoupling elements are positioned across the transparent layer. The waveguide structure provides non-visible light to the outcoupling elements and the outcoupling elements outcouple the non-visible light as non-visible illumination light to illuminate an eye region.

An eye is illuminated with infrared illumination light from an array of infrared in-field illuminators. A wavefront image of retina-reflected infrared light is generated and an accommodative eye state value is determined based at least in part on the wavefront image.

An off-axis optical combiner includes a parabolic lensing structure that selects collimated infrared image light received from an eyebox area for focusing to a focus of the off-axis optical combiner. Selecting the collimated infrared image light for focusing allows the parabolic lensing structure to form a same-sized image of an object having variable depth from the parabolic lensing structure.

An interference structure having a nanovoided hologram material is described. The nanovoided hologram material may have an index of refraction difference of approximately 0.4. The interference structure may include about 10% to 90% nanovoids by volume. The interference structure may be formed using a mixture of a monomer, an initiator, and solvent. The mixture may be disposed on a substrate and irradiated with two sources of light spaced apart from each other and shining on the same region of the mixture to generate an interference pattern in the mixture, leading to the selective polymerization of regions of the mixture where there is constructive interference of light. Various other devices, methods, and systems are also disclosed.
