Compositions for lapping gears and methods for preparing the same are described. These compositions contain a salt of polyaspartic acid and may contain additional components that are useful for lapping gears. Also provided are processes for using the compositions described herein.

The oxidation of a polymer is inhibited by adding to the polymer about 0.005 to about 10 phr of an antioxidant having (in non-polymeric form) the general formula The polymer can be poly(vinylchloride), a polycarbonate, a polyether, polyethylene, polypropylene, or a mixture thereof when the antioxidant is not phthalide and can be poly (vinylchloride), a polycarbonate, a polyether, or a mixture thereof when the antioxidant is phthalide. Inhibiting polymer oxidation using non-phenolic antioxidants

A process for producing organic peroxide initiators useful in the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The process for making the organic peroxides includes forming an aqueous emulsion of the organic peroxide. The organic peroxide is dispersed as small droplets of from 1 to 10 microns in size in the aqueous emulsion. The organic peroxide may be added to a polymerization reactor containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The organic peroxide functions as a free radical initiator to polymerize the monomer. The organic peroxide may be substantially free of organic solvents and plasticizers. The resulting polymers are of high quality.

Method for producing organic peroxides and their use in the radical polymerization of monomers

A polymer of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polycarbonate, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyimide, polyester, or polyvinyl acetate contains about 0.005 to about 10 phr of a stabilizer to prevent discoloration due to oxidation, particularly gamma radiation.

A method of preparing a sterile article is disclosed. A polymer having a halogen-containing repeating unit is prepared that contains about 0.005 to about 65 phr of a stabilizer having the general formula TGOT&prime;, wherein each T is independently selected from R&mdash;, R&mdash;CO&mdash;, &mdash;P(R) , &mdash;P (OR) , &mdash;Si(R) , OR&mdash;Si (OR) , T&prime; is T or A &lsqb;GOT&rsqb; , each A is independently selected from LS&mdash;Sn(R) (SLJ) when n is 0, from CO, E, CO&mdash;E&mdash;CO, Si(R) , OR&mdash;Si (OR) , (Si(R) G) , (CO&mdash;E&mdash;CO&mdash;G) , (CO&mdash;G) , or (E&mdash;G) when n is 1, and from P, PO, and trimellitate when n is 2, Y is &mdash;SLJ, &mdash;SLOR, &mdash;OLJ, &mdash;OLR, &mdash;S(CH ) &mdash;J, &mdash;S(CH ) R, OLCO&mdash;J, or OLCOOR, G is (O&mdash;CH &mdash;R&prime;CH) , J is O&mdash;(CH CR&prime;HO)T, L is CO(CH ) , each R is independently selected from R&prime;, aralkyl from C to C , and alkaryl from C to C , each R&prime; is independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl from C to C , aryl from C to C , E is alkylene from C to C , alkyarylene from C to C , arylene from C to C , m is 1 to 20, n is 0 to 2, p is 0 to 10, q is 0 to 3, and r is 1 to 20. An article is made from the polymer and the article is sterilized with ionizing radiation. Also disclosed are novel stabilizers for use in this method.

Preparing sterile articles from polymers containing a stabilizer based on a poly(oxyalkylene)

Disclosed is a method of inhibiting the formation of scale on reactor surfaces in contact with a polymerizing vinyl monomer comprising contacting said monomer with a terpolymer which comprises the condensation reaction product of (A) an aromatic compound that contains the group ##STR1## where Q is OR or SR and R is hydrogen, alkyl from C.sub.1 to C.sub.15, or aryl, alkaryl, or aralkyl from C.sub.6 to C.sub.15 : (B) about 0.1 to about 10 moles of a carbonyl compound per mole of said aromatic compound; and (C) about 0.1 to about 10 moles of a thiourea per mole of said aromatic compound.

Disclosed is a method of preparing a sterile medical article. A poly(vinyl chloride) or polyvinylidene chloride polymer is produced that contains about 0.001 to about 5 wt % of a metal complex having at least one anionic ligand that has at least one resonance structure in which the charge is localized on a carbon atom. A medical article is fabricated from the chlorinated polymer and the medical article is exposed to gamma radiation.
