A method for scaling a stability signal in a steering system is provided and includes computing, by a torque boost module, an assist torque command to cause a motor of the steering system to generate an assist torque. Further, the method includes computing, by a stability compensation module, a stabilized torque command based on an input signal, the stabilized torque command modifying the assist torque command. Further, the method includes computing, by a stability monitoring module, a stability scaling factor to adjust the stabilized torque command based on a duration and severity of an instability detected in the input signal.

Real-time stability monitoring in steering systems

Systems and methods for operating a driveline of a vehicle that includes an automatic transmission and a torque converter are described. In one example, vehicle launch is controlled according to a linear quadratic regulator that provides feedback control according to torque converter slip error and vehicle speed error. The vehicle launch is also controlled according to feed forward control that is based on requested torque converter slip and requested vehicle speed.

Methods and system for controlling launch of a vehicle having an automatic transmission

A method of operating a vehicle includes, responsive to a command to launch the vehicle and while the vehicle is in a first gear, determining, at a controller, a feedforward component including a target engine torque and a target bypass clutch torque, and a feedback component that is based on an error between the target converter slip and a measured converter slip and between the target wheel torque and a measured wheel torque. The method further includes changing a commanded engine torque and a commanded bypass clutch torque based on the feedforward component and the feedback component.

An embodiment of a method of controlling one or more components of a vehicle includes receiving a reference steering command and one or more measurement signals related to a steering system of a vehicle, and estimating, by a processing device, a state of the steering system based on the one or more measurement signals, the steering system including at least a handwheel and a steering motor. The method also includes determining a maximum state achievable by the steering system at one or more times subsequent to receiving the one or more measurement signals, and controlling, by a control module, the steering system based on the steering reference command and the maximum state.

A vehicle includes a transmission, friction brakes, and a controller. The transmission has a clutch that is configured to transfer torque from an input of the transmission to a drive wheel. The controller is programmed to, in response to application of the friction brakes resulting in a stationary position of the vehicle, disengage the clutch to establish a neutral condition of the transmission. The controller is also programmed to, in response to a command to launch the vehicle while the transmission is in the neutral condition, engage the clutch. The controller is further programmed to, in response to an estimated wheel torque exceeding a rollback threshold during the clutch engagement, release the friction brakes. The wheel torque is based on an estimated clutch torque which is based on a clutch pressure and a transmission input torque.

A vehicle includes a transmission and a controller. The transmission has clutches that are configured to establish multiple speed ratios, including a first clutch. The first clutch has a measured drag torque distribution. The measured drag torque distribution has a median and a standard deviation. The controller is programmed to increase a pressure at a rate to engage the first clutch and to increase the rate in response to a measured first clutch torque exceeding the median by a predetermined multiple of the standard deviation.

Technical solutions are described for a payload detection module that detects payload using one or more steering system control signals and generates an axle load factor. An example payload detection module includes a rack torque module to determine a rack torque, a reference model module to determine a reference rack torque for the steering system based on a load scale factor, and a load factor calculation module to compute the axle load factor based on a difference between the rack torque and the reference rack torque. Further, a blend factor module determines a load blend factor according to the axle load factor. Further yet, a signal combiner combines a blended nominal base assist and a blended highload base assist according to the load blend factor, the combination modifying a motor torque command, the motor torque command being sent to a motor to generate assist torque.

Technical solutions are described for facilitating a steering system to determine a motor velocity estimate for a motor of the steering system. For example, the steering system may include a state observer module that computes a base motor velocity estimate of the motor based on a plant model of the steering system. The steering system may further include a delay compensation module that computes a delay compensated velocity estimate based on the base motor velocity estimate and an acceleration of the motor. The steering system may further include a standstill detection module that modifies the delay compensated velocity estimate in response to a handwheel of the steering system being in standstill mode.
