A method of performing synchronous replication from a primary storage system apparatus (PSSA) to a secondary storage system apparatus (SSSA) is provided. The method includes (a) in response to write requests received by the PSSA, (i) calculating metadata changes by the PSSA for accommodating the write requests, (ii) generating, by the PSSA, metadata journal log entries that describe the metadata changes, and (iii) mirroring the metadata journal log entries from the PSSA to the SSSA; (b) regenerating the metadata changes by the SSSA based on the metadata journal log entries mirrored from the PSSA to the SSSA; and (c) writing the regenerated metadata changes to persistent storage of the SSSA. A method performed by the SSSA is also provided. An apparatus, system, and computer program product for performing similar methods are also provided.

Reducing redundancy in synchronous replication of metadata with a journal log

A technique preserves replication to a storage node. The technique involves, from a first storage node, sending a replication query to a second storage node. The technique further involves, in response to the replication query sent to the second storage node, receiving replication session data from the second storage node. The replication session data describes replication which has terminated from a third storage node to the second storage node for a particular storage object. The technique further involves, based on the replication session data, establishing replication from the first storage node to the second storage node for the particular storage object to preserve use of the particular storage object.

Preserving replication to a storage object on a storage node

Systems and methods for managing data replication between data storage resources with differing capabilities. A system can check whether capabilities of a primary data storage system are different from capabilities of a secondary data storage system. Such checking can be performed based on a release version of each of the primary and secondary data storage systems. If the capabilities of the respective data storage systems are determined to be different, then the system can make a determination as to whether or not the difference can be rectified. If the difference can be rectified, such as by enabling/disabling certain features of the primary and/or secondary data storage system, then the system can perform such a rectification and proceed with provisioning of data to be replicated. If the difference cannot be rectified, then the system can prevent the provisioning of the data and notify an administrator of the data storage systems.

Apparatus and methods for inter-version replication checking

There is disclosed a method and system for use in managing a data storage system. A management system stores information in connection with a data storage system. The information comprises a location of the data storage system. A near field communication link is established between a wireless mobile communications device and the management system in response to the wireless mobile communications device being positioned substantially adjacent the management system. The location of the data storage system is transmitted from the management system to the wireless mobile communications device over the near field communication link. The transmitted location of the data storage system is received in the wireless mobile communications device such that the wireless mobile communications device can assist in locating the data storage system.

Data storage system management

Described is a method and system for use in evaluating management operations. A current storage configuration in connection with a data storage system is captured. A management operation event relating to the data storage system is simulated without affecting the data storage system. The management operation event is simulated using the current storage configuration in connection with the data storage system. A management operation event output is provided for enabling evaluation of the potential affect of the management operation event in the data storage system in response to simulating the management operation.

Evaluating management operations

There is disclosed a method and system for use in evaluating a system event. A current storage configuration is captured in connection with a data storage system. A system failure event relating to the data storage system is simulated without impacting the data storage system. The system failure event is simulated using the current storage configuration in connection with the data storage system. A system failure event output is provided for enabling evaluation of the potential impact of the system failure event in the data storage system in response to simulating the system failure event.

Evaluating a system event

Described are techniques for searching. Search criteria including parameters is received. It is determined whether to perform searching based on storage provisioned for one or more selected applications identified in the search criteria. If it is determined to perform searching based on storage provisioned for one or more selected applications, first processing is performed in accordance with the search criteria, and otherwise second processing is performed in accordance with the search criteria. Search results produced as a result of one of the first processing and the second processing are received.
